Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (English: Stand for Development and Democracy) commonly known as BAKUD, is a local political party based in Cebu's 5th congressional district, Philippines. It is a political party run by the Durano family of Cebu formed in 2001. BAKUD is currently affiliated with the Nationalist People's Coalition since 2018. The Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) is a conservative political party in the Philippines, founded in 1992 by then-presidential candidate Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. History The Party was founded in 1992 after some members of the Nacionalista Party led by then Rizal Governor Isidro Rodriguez bolted from the party after some disagreements with party leader and then-Vice President Salvador Laurel in preparation for the 1992 presidential elections. Agnes Almendras Magpale (born January 21, 1942) is Filipina educator and politician from Cebu, Philippines. In 2010, she became a Cebu Provincial Board Member, acting Vice Governor, and acting Governor within a single three-year electoral term through succession. She assumed the Vice Governor post upon the death of incumbent Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. in 2010 and became acting Governor when Gwendolyn Garcia was suspended in 2012. Previously, she was a member of the Provincial Board representing the 5th legislative district from 1992 until 2001.
