Barton Kyle Yount
Barton Kyle Yount (January 18, 1884 – July 11, 1949) was a United States Army lieutenant general. His most important assignments were carried out in military aviation as a member of the U.S. Army Air Forces. Biography Yount was born in Troy, Ohio. He was a student at the Ohio State University from 1902 to 1903 and then commenced studies at the United States Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1907. Yount was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 27th Infantry Regiment, and carried out assignments in Cuba, at Ft. Wayne, Michigan, Fort Sheridan, Illinois, on a mapping detail along the Canada–US border, and with 4th Brigade, 2nd Division in Texas City, Texas. In 1914 he transferred to the 15th Infantry Regiment and served in Tientsin, China. In 1917 he was assigned as Military Attaché in Peking, China. The 27th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the "Wolfhounds", is a regiment of the United States Army established in 1901, that served in the Philippine–American War, in the Siberian Intervention after World War I, and as part of the 25th Infantry Division ("Tropic Lightning") during World War II, the Korean War, and later the Vietnam War. Rockwell Field is a former United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) military airfield, located northwest of the city of Coronado, California, on the northern part of the Coronado Peninsula across the bay from San Diego, California. This airfield played a fundamental role in the development of United States military aviation in the period before and during World War I. Originally it was The Curtiss School of Aviation, founded by Glenn Curtiss. In November 1912, the Army established a permanent flying school on the island. Kelly Field
Kelly Field (formerly Kelly Air Force Base) is a Joint-Use facility located in San Antonio, Texas. It was originally named after George E. M. Kelly, the first member of the U.S. military killed in the crash of an airplane he was piloting. In 2001, pursuant to BRAC action, the former Kelly AFB runway and land west of the runway became "Kelly Field" and control of this reduced size installation was transferred to the adjacent Lackland Air Force Base, part of Joint Base San Antonio. The base is under the jurisdiction of the 802d Mission Support Group, Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The 15th United States Infantry Regiment is a parent regiment in the United States Army. It has a lineage tracing back to the American Civil War, having participated in many battles. It is part of 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team and 3rd Infantry Division. Previous 15th Regiments The official Army history and lineage does not credit the current 15th Infantry with the honors or lineage of these earlier regiments.
