Fred Barton (composer)
Fred Barton (born October 20, 1958) is an American composer, lyricist, director, actor, singer, arranger, conductor, and pianist. He made his New York debut in 1982 as co-creator-arranger-performer-pianist in the original company of the long-running revue ''Forbidden Broadway'', appearing in the New York, Los Angeles and Boston productions for 2,000 performances, and on the cast album for DRG Records. In 1985 the show won a Drama Desk Award. ''Forbidden Broadway'' ran for 27 years off-Broadway, and won a special Tony Award in 2006. Early life Barton grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, the son of prominent radar scientist David K. Barton and Ruth Barton. His mother's family included generations of musicians, including her first cousin Paul Desmond, the jazz saxophonist. Rick Barton (musician)
Rick Barton is an American musician and producer from Boston, MA who is currently the singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band Continental. Barton was previously a founding member and guitarist of the rock band, The Outlets and a founding member and guitarist for the punk band Dropkick Murphys. Barton along with his brother David Alex Barton formed The Outlets in the early 80s and were an acclaimed live band in the Boston area. The Outlets attained success in the greater Boston music scene but failed to gain national attention when they signed with Restless/Enigma in 1985, despite modest critical acclaim including a recommendation from Billboard Magazine. They are best known for the single "Knock Me Down", which was a regional hit. Polly Barton is an American textile artist. Biography She was born in New York City. As a student she studied art history at Barnard College (class of 1978) and has lived and traveled in Paris, Florence, and Rome. In 1981, she moved to Kameoka, Japan, to study with master weaver Tomohiko Inoue, living in the religious heart of the Oomoto Foundation. She returned to New York in 1982 and continued to weave on her Japanese tsumugi silk kimono looms. A nationally recognized artist, she shows her woven silk ikat paintings on both coasts, and is collected by thArt Institute of Chicago Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and by important private collectors. Margaret Ann Barton (born 27 May 1926) is a British retired actress. She is best known for her role in the 1945 David Lean film ''Brief Encounter'' in which she played Beryl Walters, a girl who works in the railway station cafe. Early career Barton began acting in the theatre at the age of 12. Because she was small for her age, during World War II she portrayed children and young women. At 17 she appeared in ''Pink String and Sealing Wax'' at the Duke of York's Theatre and remembered performing while doodlebugs flew overhead. While on the West End stage she was spotted by David Lean and Noël Coward and cast for the part of Beryl in ''Brief Encounter''. John Barton (born 1957) is a Canadian poet. Early life Barton was born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1957 but was raised in Calgary. Education Barton studied at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Quebec, Victoria University, and Columbia University in New York. He originally wanted to study architecture but did poorly in calculus and was enrolled in English courses in the Faculté Saint-Jean at the University of Alberta. He became a poet upon realization that there were fewer factors affecting his ability to excel in his chosen vocation. In 1986, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario, with a Master of Library and Information Science. Also, Barton studied Book Editing at the Banff Publishing Centre in 1994. John Barton (15th century) was an English writer on Lollardy. Barton appears to have flourished in the reign of Henry V, to whom he dedicated his 'Confutatio Lollardorum.' A manuscript copy of this work is preserved in the library of All Souls' College, Oxford, written in a hand which Henry Octavius Coxe assigned to the 15th century. Other manuscripts of this author are mentioned by Thomas Tanner, who wanted to identify him with a certain John Barton, Esq., buried in St. Martin's Church, Ludgate, 1439. John Bernard Adie Barton, CBE (26 November 1928 – 18 January 2018), was a British theatre director and teacher whose close association with the Royal Shakespeare Company spanned more than half a century.
