Bartlesville Pirates
The Bartlesville Pirates were a minor league baseball team, based in Bartlesville, Oklahoma from 1948 to 1952. During that time, the club was a member of the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri League and a class-D affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri League
The Kansas–Oklahoma–Missouri League (or KOM League) was a name of an American minor league baseball league which was established in 1946 and played through 1952. As the name indicates, the Class D level league had franchises based in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Baseball Hall of Fame members Mickey Mantle played in the league for the 1949 Independence Yankees and Burleigh Grimes managed the 1948 Independence Yankees. History The Kansas–Oklahoma–Missouri League was founded after World War II and ran from 1946 through 1952 as a Class D level league. Hershel Ray Martin (September 19, 1909 – November 17, 1980) was an American professional baseball player and scout. An outfielder born in Birmingham, Alabama, and raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Martin played for 23 seasons, mostly in minor league baseball, although he did appear in 607 Major League games in 1937–1940 and 1944–1945 for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees. Martin stood tall and weighed ; he was a switch-hitter who threw right-handed. He had 643 hits during his Major League career, batting .285, including 28 home runs, 135 doubles and 29 triples.
