Barry Cuthbert Jones (6 March 1893 – 1 May 1981) was an actor seen in British and American films, on American television and on the stage. Biography Jones was born on Guernsey in the Channel Islands in 1893. He started his acting career on the British stage in 1921. He performed in his first film, Shaw's '' Arms and the Man'' as Bluntschli in 1932. In 1935, he originated the role of King Stephen in Ivor Novello's stage musical, ''Glamorous Night''. A character actor in many films, often portraying nobility, he had a starring role in the film ''Seven Days to Noon''. He also played Mr. Lundie in the 1954 film adaptation of ''Brigadoon'', and Polonius in the 1953 U.S. television adaptation of ''Hamlet''. He appeared as Claudius in ''Demetrius and the Gladiators'', a sequel to 20th Century Fox's biblical epic, ''The Robe''. Barry Owen Jones, (born 11 October 1932), is an Australian polymath, writer, teacher, lawyer, social activist, quiz champion and former politician. He campaigned against the death penalty throughout the 1960s, particularly against the execution of Ronald Ryan. He is on the National Trust's list of Australian Living Treasures. Early life Barry Jones was born in Geelong, Victoria, and educated at Melbourne High School and the University of Melbourne, where he studied arts and law. Stephen Barry, Baron Jones (born 26 June 1938) is a British Labour Party politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1970 to 2001, and since then as a life peer. Early life Jones was educated at Hawarden Grammar School and Bangor College of Education. A teacher, he was president of the Flint County National Union of Teachers. He also served for two years in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Political career Jones first stood for Parliament in Northwich in 1966, without success, although he reduced the Conservative majority from 4,385 to 703. Barry Philip Jones (29 September 1941 – 13 February 2016) was the ninth Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, New Zealand. He succeeded Bishop Cunneen in 2007. Born in Rangiora, New Zealand, in 1941, Jones received his education at St Joseph's Convent Primary and St Bede's College, Christchurch. He studied for the priesthood at Holy Name Seminary (Christchurch), and at Holy Cross Seminary College, Mosgiel. He was ordained a priest on 4 July 1966, aged 24, by Bishop Ashby. On 28 June 2006 he was appointed as Coadjutor Bishop of Christchurch, and consecrated on 4 October 2006. He played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Mets. The thirty-second edition of the Caribbean Series (''Serie del Caribe'') was played in . It was held from February 5 through February 11 with the champions teams from the Dominican Republic, Leones del Escogido; Mexico, Naranjeros de Hermosillo; Puerto Rico, Senadores de San Juan, and Venezuela, Leones del Caracas. The format consisted of 12 games, each team facing the other teams twice, and was played at Miami Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. Summary The four-team, round-robin tournament was brought to Miami after it ran into dire economic woes in Caribbean countries. In a botched experiment, the Series games were played in the now defunct Orange Bowl, which had not been used for baseball since 1956, when the legendary Satchel Paige pitched there in an exhibition game. Barry Jones (born 3 May 1974) is a Welsh former boxing world champion. He won the WBO super featherweight championship in 1997, but was stripped of the title when his license was revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control after an anomaly was discovered during a brain scan. Boxing career Jones began boxing at the age of ten, during which he trained at Ray Thorogood's Highfields gym. He was a junior fighter of note, claiming a silver medal at European level as well as competing in the World Amateur Boxing Championships. He turned professional in 1992 at the age of eighteen, and was trained by former British welterweight champion Pat Thomas.
