Barry Gill
Barry Gill (born 21 January 1945) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A member of one of Carlton's famous footballing families, Gill was regarded as a dependable, no-frills defender who was part of two premiership teams for the Blues. He is the younger brother of John Gill, nephew of Frank Gill and cousin of Dick Gill, all of whom also played for Carlton at senior VFL level. Gill carried his good form from 1969 into 1970, playing every game until Round 21 against at Princes Park, when he was replaced at three-quarter time after sustaining a slight thigh muscle strain. Carlton decided to rest Gill for the final home-and-away round in order for him to recover for the Second Semi-final against Collingwood. The Carlton Football Club, nicknamed the Blues, is a professional Australian rules football club that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's top professional competition. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved too. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL).
