Glasgow, Kentucky
Glasgow is a home rule-class city in Barren County, Kentucky, United States. It is the seat of its county. Glasgow is the principal city of the Glasgow micropolitan area, which comprises Barren and Metcalfe counties. The population was 14,028 at the 2010 U.S. census. The city is well known for its annual Scottish Highland Games. In 2007, Barren County was named the number one rural place to live by ''The Progressive Farmer'' magazine. Geography Glasgow is located in central Barren County at (37.000375, -85.920229). U.S. Route 31E and U.S. Route 68 intersect at the center of the city, and the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway passes south of downtown, with access from three exits. Barren County is a county located in the south-central portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,485. Its county seat is Glasgow. The county was founded on December 20, 1798, from parts of Warren and Green Counties. It was named for the Barrens, meadowlands that cover the northern third, though actually the soil is fertile. Barren County is part of the Glasgow, KY Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Bowling Green-Glasgow, KY Combined Statistical Area. The ''Glasgow Daily Times'' was a newspaper based in Glasgow, Kentucky, and covering Barren County. Founded in 1865, the paper published its final edition on June 9, 2020. Previously published daily except Saturdays, the print schedule was reduced to three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) in April 2020, eight weeks before it was shut down by owner Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. Barren County High School is a four-year State school, public High school (North America), high school located in Glasgow, Kentucky, U.S. It is one of two high schools serving the Barren County Schools, Barren County school system, the other being the Trojan Academy. It is located on the south side of Glasgow on Trojan Trail off of U.S. Route 31E near the exit 11 interchange off the Cumberland Parkway, Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway. The school's principal is Amy Irwin. Athletics The Barren County High School athletic teams are known as the Trojans.
