Barreiro () is a city and a municipality in Setúbal District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 78,764, in an area of 36.39 km2. Barreiro has a view of the city of Lisbon from Avenida da Praia and a riverside area called Alburrica. The mayor since 2017 has been Frederico Rosa, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is June 28. History There are records of the village of Barreiro from as far as the 13th century, when the Military Order of Saint James of the Sword promoted its settlement. Due to the village's location, the main occupation of the population was harvesting salt and fishing. By the time the Portuguese reached India and Brasil (early 16th century), it was in Barreiro that shipbuilding was concluded, since it started in Lisbon during summer and when the rougher weather arrived the construction had to be moved to somewhere with more sheltered conditions. Manuel 'Manu' Barreiro Bustelo (born 8 July 1986) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for CD Lugo as a forward. Club career Born in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Barreiro was a Valencia CF youth graduate. He made his debut as a senior with the reserves in the 2004–05 season, in the Tercera División. After prolific lower league spells at CD Lalín and Algeciras CF, Barreiro joined Cádiz CF on 31 January 2008. Initially assigned to the B side, he made his first-team debut on 20 April 2008, coming on as a late substitute for Natalio in a 1–0 Segunda División away win against CD Numancia. Bruno Barreiro
Bruno Arthur Barreiro (born December 14, 1965) is a Republican politician from Florida. He served on the Miami-Dade County Commission from 1998 to 2018, representing part of Miami Beach and the Miami neighborhoods of Brickell, Little Havana, Coral Way, and West Flagler. He resigned on March 31, 2018, to run for Florida's 27th congressional district in the 2018 elections. Gustavo Barreiro
Gustavo "Gus" Alberto Barreiro (July 12, 1959 – August 16, 2019) was a Republican politician from Florida. He served four terms in the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 107th district in Miami-Dade County from 1998 to 2006. His district encompassed parts of Miami, Miami Beach, and Coral Gables. In 2012, Barreiro ran for the Florida House again, but lost the Republican primary in the 112th district to Alex Díaz de la Portilla, 59 to 41%. He died after a heart attack in 2019.
