Barran
Barran () is a commune in the Gers department in southwestern France. Geography Barran is located on the river Baïse from the capital of the Gers department, Auch. History Barran is a typical example of a bastide, those villages that were erected in Gascony in the late Middle Ages. It was founded by the end of the 13th century. It is well known in the region for the very unusual helical shape of the tower of its church. Not in the village itself but still on the territory of the commune (the third largest of the department in surface area) are several interesting places, like the castle of Mazères, which was the summer residency of the bishops of Auch and then a military hospital during World War I. Close to the castle is the bridge of Mazères, which was built around the 16th century over the river Baïse. Sanaa ( ar, صَنْعَاء '), also spelled San'a or Sana, is a governorate of Yemen. Its capital is Sanaa, which is also the national capital. However, the city of Sanaa is not part of the governorate but instead forms the separate governorate of Amanat Al-Asemah. The Governorate covers an area of . Barran Temple
Barran Temple ( ar, معبد بران) is a Sabaean temple near Marib, Yemen; also known as "Throne of Bilqis", it was dedicated to the god al-Maqah. Background The temple is located to the west of the Temple of Awwam, also dedicated to the god Almaqah. The main features of the structure are the six columns and the sacred well in the middle of the courtyard. Until the 1988 excavations only five columns were known to exist, when remains of another were discovered. The temple is considered to be the largest pre-Islamic temple in Yemen. The Barran Baronetcy, of Chapel Allerton Hall in Chapel Allerton in the West Riding of the County of York and Queen's Gate, St Mary's Abbot, in Kensington in the County of London, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 11 February 1895 for the merchant and Liberal Party (UK), Liberal politician Sir John Barran, 1st Baronet, John Barran. He represented Leeds (UK Parliament constituency), Leeds and Otley (UK Parliament constituency), Otley in the British House of Commons, House of Commons. Diana Francesca Caroline Clare Barran, Baroness Barran, (born 10 February 1959) is a British charity campaigner, former hedge fund manager and Conservative Party life peer. She is the founder of the domestic abuse awareness charity SafeLives and served as its chief executive from 2004 to 2017. Career Barran worked as an investment banker in London and Paris for Morgan Grenfell and Enskilda Asset Management and founded the hedge fund Barran and Partners in 1993. Perdita Elizabeth Barran is a Professor of Mass Spectrometry at the University of Manchester. She is Director of the Michael Barber Centre for Collaborative Mass Spectrometry. She develops and applies ion-mobility spectrometry–mass spectrometry to the study of molecule structure and is searching for biomarkers for Parkinson's disease. She co-leads the mass spectrometry theme for the Rosalind Franklin Institute. She was awarded the 2009 Joseph Black award from the Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical Division. Petra Barran
Petra Barran is a British entrepreneur and the founder of the London street food collective KERB. In 2005, Barran began her street food career selling chocolate out of an old ice cream van. As of 2019, KERB has five sites across London, which serve more than 10,000 dishes a week. Early life Barran grew up in Suffolk, where her father was a fishmonger and schoolteacher who also grew and sold herbs, her mother was a teacher of dyslexic children. They lived in converted stables at a large house owned by her grandparents and ate roadkill. She became interested in food during her childhood and was first introduced to street food at the age of ten in Mexico. Her first job was in a local tearoom. Rowland Barran
Sir Rowland Hirst Barran (7 August 1858 – 6 August 1949) was a British Liberal Party politician and Member of Parliament. Biography Rowland Barran was born in 1858, the youngest son of Sir John Barran, a pioneer in clothing manufacture and Member of Parliament for Leeds and Otley. Following the death of Frances Lupton in 1892, Rowland lived near Leeds at Frances's Beechwood Estate which had been entailed to her eldest son and fellow Liberal politician, Francis Martineau Lupton. Barran remained at Beechwood until Francis Martineau's death in 1921. Lupton and his family also owned the Newton Park Estate (North Leeds), the constituency of which Barran was M.P. from 1902–1918. Barran bred Shorthorn livestock during his residency at Beechwood. Barran became chairman of the family firm in 1918, succeeding his brother, Charles, who had succeeded their father in this post in 1903.
