Barpali
Barpali is a small town and a block ( Tehsil) within the Bargarh district in the state of Odisha, India. Barpali is largely famous for renowned Odia Poet Swabhaba Kabi Gangadhar Meher who was born here. However, there are several other cultural notations which have made Barpali famous nationally and internationally, like: the indigenous sambalpuri saree weaving art (Ikat design) and the earthen pottery handicrafts (Terracotta) etc, creations from the native inhabitants of Barpali. Among others, the name Barpali also draws attention towards the past studies, wide usage and then outward expansion of preliminary versions of sanitary toilets started by foreigners here, known as 'Barpali Toilets' nearly 40 years ago. Bargarh District
Bargarh District is an administrative district of Odisha state in eastern India. The city of Bargarh is its district headquarters. The district was carved out of the erstwhile district of Sambalpur on 1 April 1993. History In ancient times, Bargarh was part of Dakshina Kosala, along with large parts of western Odisha and the plains of Chhattisgarh. The region was most likely in the pre-Maghadan empire of Mahapadmananda. However there is no mention of the territory in Mauryan inscriptions, so it is unknown whether the Mauryans controlled Dakshina Kosala. After the collapse of the Mauryan empire, Dakshina Kosala became ruled by the Chedis. It was from Dakshina Kosala and Kharavela's ancestors came to Kalinga. Gangadhar Meher
Swabhaba kabi Gangadhar Meher () was a renowned Odia language, Odia poet of the 19th century. Though poor in wealth and education, he remained one of the most prolific and original contributor to Odia literature. Childhood Gangadhara was born in 1862 on the full moon day of Shravana Purnima at Barpali of present-day Bargarh district of Odisha. Chaitanya Meher was working as a village Vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor) besides his family profession of weaving. But as he could not maintain his family with the income of these works, he opened a village school and began to teach a few children. Gangadhara Meher could read up to the Middle Vernacular Standard hurdling over diverse disadvantages, and his keen eagerness for literature eventually sparked his skills in writing poems.
