Barnsley East and Mexborough was a Parliamentary constituency in South Yorkshire which returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The constituency was created in 1997, partially replacing Barnsley East, and was a safe seat for the Labour Party. At the 2010 general election, it was largely replaced by a re-established Barnsley East constituency. History Boundaries The Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley wards of Brierley, Darfield, Dearne South, Dearne Thurnscoe, Wombwell North, and Wombwell South, and the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster wards of Mexborough and Richmond. Boundaries The Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley wards of Darton, Dodworth, Hoyland East, Hoyland West, Park, Penistone East, Penistone West, and Worsbrough. Barnsley West and Penistone constituency was created in 1983 when the former Barnsley constituency was split into three divisions. Jeff Ennis
Jeffrey Ennis (born 13 November 1952) is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Barnsley East and Mexborough from 1996 to 2010, having been first elected at the Barnsley East by-election. Early life and education Ennis was born in Grimethorpe, near Barnsley in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the son of a coal miner and educated at the Hemsworth Grammar School on Station Road before attending the Redland Teachers Training College near Bristol where he was awarded a Bachelor of Education degree in 1975. After leaving education he became a raw materials inspector with J. Lyons and Co. bakery at Carlton, before becoming a teacher in 1976 initially at the Elston Hall Junior School in Fordhouses, Wolverhampton. In 1978, he moved to teach at the Burngreave Middle School in Sheffield, and from 1979 until his election he taught at Hillsborough Primary School in Sheffield. Goldthorpe is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It was anciently a small medieval farming village, Goldthorpe is recorded in the ''Domesday Book'' a part of the Manor of Bolton upon Dearne which was once owned by Roger de Busli. The village is in the Dearne North Ward of Barnsley MBC and had a population of 6,051 at the 2011 Census. Bolton upon Dearne is a village in South Yorkshire, England, in the part of the Dearne Valley through which the River Dearne passes.
