Barney Serrell
Barney Clinton "El Grillo" Serrell (March 9, 1920 – August 15, 1996) was an American baseball second baseman in the Negro leagues and the Mexican League. He played from 1941 to 1957 with several teams. He is also listed as William C. Serrell and Bonnie Serrell. Serrell started his Negro league career with the Chicago American Giants, playing one game and going 1-for-4. He then moved to the Kansas City Monarchs, where he played for four seasons. In 1942, he finished second in the batting title race of the Negro American League, batting .360, which was only beaten out by Ted Strong, his teammate (.364). He led the league in triples with five. 1942 Negro World Series
The Negro World Series was a best-of-seven match-up between the Negro American League champion Kansas City Monarchs and the Negro National League champion Washington-Homestead Grays. In a six-game series, the Monarchs swept the Grays four games to none, with two additional games not counted in the standings. The Monarchs actually won the 1942 series 5-1, but a second game played in Yankee Stadium on September 13 (a seven-inning victory by the Monarchs) was not counted by prior agreement, and the only game played in Kansas City was thrown out on appeal when the Grays used unauthorized players from other NNL teams. The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (''Owls of the Two Laredos''), formerly known as the Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo (''Owls of Nuevo Laredo''), are a Minor League Baseball team based in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and Laredo, Texas in the Mexican League.
