Aarif Barma
The Honourable Mr Justice Aarif Tyebjee Barma (; born 1959) is a Hong Kong judge, and currently serves as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of Hong Kong. Biography Early life Born in Mumbai, India, Barma grew up in Hong Kong, where he attended Diocesan Boys' School. He then read law at Exeter College, Oxford obtaining a BA in 1981 and a BCL in 1982. Legal career Barma was called to the Bar at Middle Temple in 1983, and to the Hong Kong Bar later the same year. After doing most of his pupillage in London, he returned to Hong Kong to complete his pupillage and commenced practice there as a barrister at the end of 1984. In 2002, he was appointed Senior Counsel. He was a member of Temple Chambers during his time in private practice. Barma sat as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2002 and 2003. Claude Barma (3 November 1918, in Nice – 30 August 1992, in Paris), was a French director and screenwriter, and an early creator of French television programmes. Biography After studying electrical engineering, he entered television in 1946 with the drama ''Chambre 34'', his directorial debut. On 24 February 1950, he produced the first live French television show by transmitting part of Marivaux's ''Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard'' and the ''Comédie-Française''. His first series followed in 1950, ''Agence Nostradamus'', which was also the first series on French television. In 1955, he staged a trial court scripted by Peter Desgraupes and Dumayet Peter (producers of the series). Panchanan Barma (1866–1935), also known as Thakur Panchanan or Panchanan Sarkar, was a Rajbanshi leader and social reformer from Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India. He dedicated his life for the improvement of backward class people, specifically for his own backward Rajbanshi community.
