Barkagarh Estate
The Barkagarh estate was a zamindari estate situated in modern-day Jharkhand, India, in erstwhile Lohardaga district (now in Ranchi). It was established by Ani Nath Shahdeo, the son of Nagvanshi king Ram Shah in 17th century. The capital of the estate was Satranji now located in south Ranchi. Ani Nath Shahdeo had founded his capital at Satrangi on the bank of Subarnarekha river and built Jagannath temple in 1691. Jagannath Temple, Ranchi
Jagannath Temple in Ranchi, is a 17th-century temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath. It was built by king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, in 1691. Completed on December 25, 1691, it is located about 10 km from the main town. The temple is on top of a small hillock. Similar to the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, this temple is built in the same architectural style, although smaller, and similar to the Rath Yatra in Puri, an annual fair cum rath yatra is held at this temple in the month of ''Aashaadha'', attracting thousands of tribal and non-tribal devotees not only from Ranchi but also from neighbouring villages and towns and is celebrated with much pomp and vigor. Jagatpal Singh
Jagatpal Singh was king of Pithoria in 19th century. He was ally of British East India Company. His father Jaimangal Singh and he made Pithoria business and cultural centre. He helped British in supression of Rebellion of 1857 in Ranchi. Early life He was son of King of Pithoria Jaimangal Singh. After his father he became king of Pithoria. Pithoria
Pithoria is a village in the Kanke CD block in the Ranchi Sadar subdivision of the Ranchi district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. History According to legend, Phani Mukut Rai, the first Nagvanshi king established sun idol near Pithoria. In 2010, remains of Sun idol of sun temple have been discovered in Semair Bera and Rarha village about 11 km north of Pithoria which is dated to 12th century CE. Archeologist also discovered 16th century Idgah, 18th century Shiva temple, 19th century garrison. The garrison was built during Indian rebellion of 1857. Sheikh Bhikhari
Sheikh Bhikhari (1819–1858) was a combatant in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He was a Dewan and general of Tikait Umrao Singh. He was born in Budmu, Bihar to a weaver Ansari family but spent the rest of his life in Khudia-Lotwa village of Ormanjhi. Tikait Umrao Singh
Tikait Umrao Singh was a king and freedom fighter. He was king of small kingdom Bandhgawa which is located in Ranchi district in Jharkhand. In Indian rebellion 1857, he and his brother Ghasi Singh played pivotal role in preventing East India Company force from occupying Ranchi. He was born in Khatanga village of Ormanjhi block in Jharkhand. He prevented company force by cutting trees of Chutupalu ghati with his dewan Sheikh Bhikhari. Pandey Ganpat Rai
Pandey Ganpat Rai (1809-1858) was a revolutionary and rebel leader in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and a chieftain in Lohardaga district of Bihar (now a part of Jharkhand). Early life He was born on January 17, 1809 in Bhounro village of Lohardaga district. He was born in a Kayastha zamindar family. His family name was Pandey of Srivastava subcaste. His father was Ramkishun Rai Srivastava and Mother Sumitra Devi. His uncle Sadashiv Rai Srivastava was Dewan of Nagvanshi Maharaja Jagannath Shah Deo. After the death of his uncle Maharaja appointed him as Dewan after seeing his capability.
