Bari–Martina Franca–Taranto Railway
The Bari–Martina Franca–Taranto railway is a long Italian railway line, that connects Bari with Putignano, Martina Franca and further to Taranto. The line was opened in three stages between 1900 and 1931. On 12 August 1900 the section from Bari to Putignano opened, the line was further extended on 14 December 1903 to Locorotondo. On 24 December 1925 the line opened between Locorotondo and Martina Franca and finally from Martina Franca to Taranto on 22 April 1931. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is the Italian railway infrastructure manager, subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), a state-owned holding company. RFI is the owner of Italy's railway network, it provides signalling, maintenance and other services for the railway network. It also operates train ferries between the Italian Peninsula and Sicily. Ferrovie Del Sud Est
Ferrovie del Sud Est (FSE) is a railway company in Apulia region, Italy. The company operates in the ''comuni'' south of Lecce and in the provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. The company also operates bus lines. In August 2016 its network was taken over by Ferrovie dello stato due to financial problems at the company. The company is now wholly owned by the Italian Transport Ministry. Geography The interior of Salento is a relatively flat plateau, which, however, slopes steeply down to the coasts of the Adriatic Sea and the Gulf of Taranto. The coast itself was very marshy, malarial and uninhabitable. Except for a few port cities, such as Bari, Otranto, Gallipoli and Taranto, all settlements are therefore located inland. Putignano ( Barese: ) is an Italian town of 26 644 inhabitants located in the Murgia of the Metropolitan City of Bari, in Apulia, southern Italy. It is known for its ancient Carnival, for textile manufacturing companies and for karst caves. Physical geography Putignano rises in a hilly position in the Murgia of trulli and caves, at an altitude of 372 m s.l.m.
