Ian Bargh
Ian Martin Bargh (8 January 1935 – 2 January 2012) was a Scottish born Canadian jazz pianist and composer. Early life Born in Prestwick, Scotland, Bargh established himself by the age of 17 as a classical pianist that played with jazz ensembles in the U.K. He emigrated to Toronto in 1957 and continued a musical career that spanned six decades. Career Bargh quickly established himself as a featured pianist and sideman for touring musicians stopping to perform in Toronto, playing in such legendary establishments as George's Spaghetti House. Through the 1960s and 1970s, some of the many jazz greats he played with were, Buddy Tate, Buck Clayton, Bobby Hackett, Vic Dickenson, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Ernestine Anderson, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Edmond Hall, Doc Cheatham, and Tyree Glenn. John Bargh
John A. Bargh (; born 1955) is a social psychologist currently working at Yale University, where he has formed the Automaticity in Cognition, Motivation, and Evaluation (ACME) Laboratory. Bargh's work focuses on automaticity and unconscious processing as a method to better understand social behavior, as well as philosophical topics such as free will. Much of Bargh's work investigates whether behaviors thought to be under volitional control may result from automatic interpretations of and reactions to external stimuli, such as words. Bargh is particularly famous for his demonstrations of priming affecting action. One of the most well-known of these studies reported that reading words related to elderliness (e.g., "Florida", "Bingo") caused subjects to walk slower when exiting the laboratory, compared to subjects who read words unrelated to the elderly.J. Renee Bargh (born 18 October 1986) is an Australian entertainment reporter, who is best known as a host of '' Channel Australia''. Robyn Bargh
Robyn Rangihuia Bargh (née Young) is a publisher and a director, council or board member of many organisations in the book industry and other arts-related organisations in New Zealand. Her work has been recognised with a number of prestigious awards including the Women in Publishing New Venture Award (1994), the Te Waka Toi Te Tohu Toi Kē Award (2006) and the Book Industry Lifetime Achievement Award (2018), and she was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2012 New Year Honours. Elso Sterrenberg Barghoorn
Elso Sterrenberg Barghoorn (June 30, 1915 – January 22, 1984) was an American paleobotanist, called by his student Andrew Knoll, the present Fisher Professor of Natural History at Harvard, "the father of Pre-Cambrian palaeontology." Barghoorn is best known for discovering in South African rocks fossil evidence of life that is at least 3.4 billion years old. These fossils show that life was present on Earth comparatively soon after the Late Heavy Bombardment (about 3.8 billion years ago). Barghoorn was born in New York City. After graduating from Miami University with a BSc and an MSc in biology, Barghoorn obtained his Ph.D. in paleobotany from the Harvard University, faculty of biological sciences, in 1941. After teaching for five years at Amherst College, he joined the Harvard faculty, becoming Fisher Professor of Natural History and curator of the university's plant fossils collections.
