Barco Strike!
Barco Strike was a Vector-based graphical user interface, vector-based drawing program targeted at the repro and print shop markets. It was developed by the Graphics division of the Barco Group from 1993 to the late 1990s on both Barco's own proprietary workstations and Silicon Graphics, SGI computers. It was meant both as a replacement for the proprietary Aesthedes systems, and as a companion linework product to the Creator continuous tone software. Software modules Like Barco Creator, Strike was set up as a modular system. The base was the "LW-Brix" linework software library (unlimited zoom, unlimited undo/redo, spline data, editable text, transparency etc.). File formats Strike could import PostScript data and convert this to the custom Barco format. Vector-based Graphical User Interface
A vector-based graphical user interface is a mostly conceptual type of graphical user interface where elements are drawn using vector rather than raster information. Pros and cons The benefits of a completely vector-based graphical user interface would include: :*more efficient, independent scalability; The resolution (measured in dots per inch or DPI) could be set higher or lower than 1px:1px without causing pixelation, enabling better use of high resolution monitors. Cons might include: :*Difficulty integrating raster-based applications. With some effort, this could be accomplished by texturing the entire raster-based application to a vector-based plane (though the disadvantages of raster-based graphics would still stand). :*Slower rendering, greater system requirements. SGI Indigo
The Indigo, introduced as the IRIS Indigo, is a line of workstation computers developed and manufactured by Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI). SGI first announced the system in July 1991. The Indigo is considered one of the most capable graphics workstations of its era, and was essentially peerless in the realm of hardware-accelerated three-dimensional graphics rendering. For use as a graphics workstation, the Indigo was equipped with a two-dimensional framebuffer or, for use as a 3D graphics workstation, with the Elan graphics subsystem including one to four Geometry Engines (GEs). SGI sold a server version with no video adapter. The Indigo's design is based on a simple cube motif in indigo hue. Barco ColorTone
Barco ColorTone was a stripped-down version of the Barco Creator image manipulation program. It was originally developed for IRIX, and only featured the base "CT-Brix", brush and colour correction modules. An additional "image quality estimator" module, not featured in Creator, was also added. Later it was ported as a standalone program to Windows NT. Esko continued to support it after the Barco Graphics division merged with Purup-Eskofot to form Esko Graphics. Now known as Esko ColorTone, the current 3.0 version also features the optional CT-Brix modules "InkSwitch" and "BlackSmith" in addition to the "FlexoFix" filter. The IRIS Crimson (code-named ''Diehard2'') is a Silicon Graphics (SGI) computer released in 1992. It is the world's first 64-bit workstation. Crimson is a member of Silicon Graphics's SGI IRIS 4D series of deskside systems; it is also known as the 4D/510 workstation. It is similar to other SGI IRIS 4D deskside workstations, and can use a wide range of graphics options (up to RealityEngine). It is also available as a file server with no graphics. SGI Indy
The Indy, code-named "Guinness", is a low-end multimedia workstation introduced on July 12, 1993. Silicon Graphics Incorporated (SGI) developed, manufactured, and marketed Indy as the lowest end of its product line, for computer-aided design (CAD), desktop publishing, and multimedia markets. It competed with Intel x86 computers, and with Windows and Macintosh, including using their files and running their applications via software emulation. It is the first computer to come standard with a video camera, called IndyCam. Indy was repackaged as a server model called Challenge S.
