Léon Mathot
Léon Mathot (5 March 1886, Roubaix, Nord-Pas-de-Calais - 6 March 1968, in Paris) was a French film actor and film director best known perhaps for playing Edmond Dantes in ''The Count of Monte Cristo'' film serial in 1918. He appeared in the 1923 silent film ''Coeur fidèle'', directed by Jean Epstein. He starred in some 60 films mostly in silent film between 1906 and 1939. He turned director in 1927 whilst still appearing in several films and retired in 1953 directing well over 20 films. Paul Vermoyal
Pierre Paul Vermoyal (18 October 1888 – 28 September 1925) was a French stage and film actor. Biography Vermoyal was born in Braye-en-Laonnois, Aisne, Picardy. He began his career on the stages of the Grand Guignol theatre in the Quartier Pigalle area of Paris in the 1910s. His first known film appearance was in the 1916 Maurice Mariaud directed short film ''Le roi de l'étain'', produced by Pathé Frères. He would go on to appear in a number of films during the 1910s directed by Mariaud, Abel Gance, Jean Manoussi and Robert Boudrioz, among others. In 1922 he appeared in the Charles Burguet directed serial film ''The Mysteries of Paris'' as Maître Ferrand. The film serial ran in twelve installments and was based on the novel of the same name by Eugène Sue. Louis Nalpas
Louis Nalpas (1884-1948) was a Greek-French film producer. He was a leading producer during the silent era, and was employed by the large French studio Pathé.:30 He was behind the company's construction of the Victorine Studios in Nice in 1921, which attempted to create a version of Hollywood on the French Riviera.:95 He then broke away to form his own production company. Nalpas produced many of the early films of director Abel Gance. Abel Gance (; born Abel Eugène Alexandre Péréthon; 25 October 188910 November 1981) was a French film director and producer, writer and actor. A pioneer in the theory and practice of montage, he is best known for three major silent films: ''J'accuse'' (1919), ''La Roue'' (1923), and ''Napoléon'' (1927). Early life Born in Paris in 1889, Abel Gance was the illegitimate son of a prosperous doctor, Abel Flamant, and a working-class mother, Françoise Péréthon (or Perthon).
