Barbara Hannay is an Australian author of contemporary romance novels. Biography Hannay has long been interested in writing. When she joined the Brownies as a child, she earned her first proficiency badge in writing. Throughout her school years, Hannay continued to write, especially short stories and poetry, but never attempted to publish any of her work. As an adult, she taught English on the high school level. One year she was assigned to teach English for Year 11 students, with a required focus on popular fiction. A romance novel or romantic novel generally refers to a type of genre fiction novel which places its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and usually has an "emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending." Catherine Spencer (born 1950) is a popular Canadian writer of over 40 romance novels in Harlequin Enterprises Ltd from 1986 to 2009. She also signed her books as Kathy Orr. Biography Catherine Spencer was born in 1950, and went to a Catholic school. She worked as a High School English teacher. She married and had four children and five dogs. When the menopause approached, Catherine began to write. She published her first novel in 1986. With friend and fellow writer Judith Bowen, she is a co-sponsor of the biennial Singletree Workshop, a weekend retreat for romance writers. Now, Spencer lives with her husband in White Rock, in south of Vancouver, British Columbia. Their four children are adults, and they have eight grandchildren. Biography Jessica Hart was born in Accra, Ghana, and grew up around Africa. She obtained a degree in French from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where her mother continues living. Brownie (Girl Guides)
Brownies are the section in the Girl Guides (or in the United States, Girl Scouts) organization for girls aged seven years old to ten years old. Exact age limits are slightly different in each organization. History Brownies, originally called Rosebuds, were first organized by Lord Baden-Powell in 1914, to complete the range of age groups for girls in Scouting. They were first run as the youngest group in the Guide Association by Agnes Baden-Powell, Lord Baden-Powell's younger sister. In 1918 his wife, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, took over the responsibility for the Girl Guides and thus for Brownies. Originally the girls were called Rosebuds, but were renamed by Lord Baden-Powell after the girls had complained that they did not like their name. Their name comes from the story "The Brownies" by Juliana Horatia Ewing, written in 1870. Emma Darcy is the pseudonym used by the Australian husband–wife writing team of Wendy Brennan (28 November 1940 – 12 December 2020) and Frank Brennan (1936 – 1995), they wrote in collaboration over 45 romance novels. In 1993, for the Emma Darcy pseudonym's 10th anniversary, they created the "Emma Darcy Award Contest" to encourage authors to finish their manuscripts.
