Barbara Bevege
Barbara Lynette Bevege (25 November 1942 – 29 April 1999) was a New Zealand cricketer who played as a right-handed batter and right-arm medium bowler. She appeared in five Test matches and 16 One Day Internationals for New Zealand between 1973 and 1982. She mainly played domestic cricket for Wellington, as well as appearing once for Auckland. She was the first woman to score both a Test century and a One Day International century for New Zealand. Her Test hundred came against India in Dunedin in 1976–77 while her One Day International (ODI) century came against International XI at the 1982 World Cup, when she put on 180 with Lesley Murdoch. She also set the record for the oldest woman to score her maiden ODI hundred, at the age of 39 years and 48 days. She scored 400 runs in Test match cricket at an average of 44.44. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Australia Women's National Cricket Team
The Australian women's national cricket team (formerly also known as the Southern Stars) represent Australia in international women's cricket. Currently captained by Meg Lanning and coached by Shelley Nitschke, they are the top team in all world rankings assigned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the women's game. Lesley Murdoch
Lesley Jean Murdoch (; born 18 March 1956) is a New Zealand former cricketer and field hockey player. Between 1979 and 1990 she appeared in 6 Test matches and 25 One Day Internationals for New Zealand as a batter. Murdoch also captained New Zealand in three Tests, drawing two and losing one, and fifteen One Day Internationals, winning eight and losing six, with one no result. She played domestic cricket for Canterbury. In hockey, she was a member of the New Zealand team that finished sixth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In the 1987 New Year Honours, Murdoch was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to cricket and hockey. In the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours, she was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to sport. 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup
The 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup, known as the 1982 Hansells Vita Fresh World Cup for sponsorship purposes, was an international cricket tournament played in New Zealand from 10 January to 7 February 1982. Hosted by New Zealand for the first time, it was the third edition of the Women's Cricket World Cup, coming four years after the previous 1978 World Cup in India. The tournament, which featured a triple round-robin, was at the time the longest World Cup both in duration and the number of matches played. Five teams were originally invited in addition to the hosts, but the Netherlands were unable to attend and the West Indies withdrew in protest at New Zealand hosting the 1981 South Africa rugby union tour during the apartheid-era in South Africa. Those teams were instead replaced by a composite International XI team. International XI Women's Cricket Team
The International XI women's cricket team was a team that took part in two Women's Cricket World Cups. They were essentially a "best of the rest" team, including players not selected by their own countries. They took part in the 1973 Women's Cricket World Cup, finishing in fourth place, and returned for the 1982 tournament, finishing in last place. Their overall record in ODIs was played 18, won 3, lost 14, with one no result. History International XI were formed to compete in the 1973 Women's Cricket World Cup, "making up the numbers" along with Young England after South Africa was not invited due to apartheid. The side was made up of players not selected for the other teams competing in the tournament. Five South African players were originally selected for the side, but withdrew after Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago threatened to boycott the tournament.
