Barbara A. Frush
Barbara A. Frush (born May 31, 1945) is an American politician from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. She served 6 terms in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Maryland's District 21 in Anne Arundel & Prince George's Counties. Background Frush was born in Washington, DC and attended Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. In the legislature Frush was first elected in 1994, serving 6 four-year terms from 1995 to 2019. During her tenure, she sat on many different committees, including the Environmental Matters Committee from 1995-2015 and the Environment and Transportation Committee from 2015-2019. She was a member of the Joint Committee on the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area from 2003-2015, and served as its House Chair in 2003. 2018 Maryland House Of Delegates Election
The 2018 Maryland House of Delegates elections were held on November 6, 2018, as part of the biennial United States elections. All 141 of Maryland's state delegates were up for reelection. Prior to the election, there was little doubt that Democrats would hold their majority in the chamber. Maryland's House of Delegates has had a Democratic majority since the elections of 1920, and it remains a solidly Democratic in elections at both the national and state level. Still, there was some discussion about whether or not Republicans would be able to make inroads in the chamber, especially considering that popular incumbent Governor Larry Hogan was running for reelection at the top of the ticket simultaneously. These hopes were not met; though Hogan won his race by double digits, there was very little down-ballot appetite for Republicans, including in the House of Delegates. Rushern Baker
Rushern Leslie Baker III (born October 24, 1958) is an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected county executive of Prince George's County, Maryland in 2010 and won re-election in 2014. In 2018 and 2022, he mounted an unsuccessful primary campaign to become Governor of Maryland. Early life and education Baker was born in Valdosta, Georgia, and grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. Baker's father, a Green Beret who served in the Vietnam War, mother, and 3 siblings lived on an Army base in Okinawa, Japan for a time before settling in Massachusetts. Baker recalls having learning struggles in school. He received his bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from Howard University in 1982 and 1986, respectively. Hyattsville, Maryland
Hyattsville is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, and also a close, urban suburb of Washington, D.C. The population was 21,187 at the 2020 United States Census. History Before Europeans reached the area, the upper Anacostia River was home to Nacotchtank/Anaquashtank people, a Piscataway-speaking Algonquian peoples who lived throughout what is now the Washington, D.C. area. European encroachment and diseases decimated their population and by the 1680s the Nacotchtank/Anaquashtank had largely moved away and merged with other tribes. In the 1720s, John Beall acquired land in the area and established Beall Town, but the town did not prosper like its neighbor Bladensburg.
