Baras (Sophene)
Carcathiocerta (; ) was a city in Armenian Sophene near the Tigris, identified with the modern town of Eğil. It was the first capital of Sophene until Arsames I founded the new capital Arshamshat around 230 BCE. The Seleucid king Antiochus IV Epiphanes renamed the city into Epiphania. Strabo in his ''Geography'', calls it "The royal city of Sophene". It was assigned to the late Roman Empire, Roman province of Mesopotamia (Roman province), Mesopotamia. It also bore the names Artagigarta, Baras, Basileon Phrourion, and Ingila. Under the name Ingila, it became a bishopric; no longer the seat of a residential bishop, it remains a titular see of the Roman Catholic Church. Its site is located at Eğil in Anatolia, Asiatic Turkey. References

Baras, Catanduanes
Baras, officially the Municipality of Baras, is a 5th class municipality in the province of Catanduanes, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 13,484 people. Etymology The name is derived from the "badas" plant, once abundant in this location. Yet, what kind of vegetation "badas" is, is a subject of conjecture. Some believed that it was a kind of bamboo, now called "bagacay". Others believed it to be some sturdy tree, but the majority believed that it is a wild rattan plant abounding in the surrounding mountains. Nevertheless, one common belief is the fact that this "badas" was a source of materials for making spears, a weapon used by the natives to repel the raiders and pirates. It is also believed that "badas" was a much in-demand material for building the native huts. Because of its abundance in the area, villagers called the place "Cabadasan" History Once called "BADAS" during the early Spanish Colonization of the archipelago. Some elders rec ...

Baras, officially the Municipality of Baras ( tgl, Bayan ng Baras), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Rizal, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 87,637 people. History In 1595, the Franciscan missionaries under the leadership of Fr. Juan de Placencia and Fr. Diego de Oropesa, founded a “visita” for Morong on the present site of Bosoboso, south of Painaan with Apostol Santiago as its patron saint. It was known as “Visita de Santiago” or Santiago until such time that it became Baras. Baras was then inhabited by 400 Aetas and other mountain people. In 1636, the town was transferred to a place called Ibayo, one and one-half leagues southeast of the first site due to the hostility of the Aetas and the mountaineers who burned part of the town and church in 1635. San Salvador became their patron saint. However, the town and church of Baras was burned by Chinese rebels in 1639, who were retreating from Manila to the Sierra Madre mounta ...
