Barak Marshall
Barak Marshall is an American-born Israeli choreographer and singer. Biography Barak Marshall was born in the United States. In 1994, after studying social theory and philosophy at Harvard University, he immigrated to Israel, where he began a successful career as a choreographer and singer. He was the house choreographer for the Batsheva Dance Company from 1999-2001. As a singer he has performed with numerous ensembles including a guest performance with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project. Awards * Suzanne Dellal’s 1995 Shades of Dance Choreography Competition: First prize, for ''Aunt Leah''. Batsheva Dance Company
The Batsheva Dance Company (Hebrew: להקת בת שבע) is a renowned dance company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was founded by Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild in 1964. Its inception was inspired by Israel's growing interest in American modern dance, mainly Martha Graham and Anna Sokolow. Classes in Graham technique were offered at the time, some taught by Rina Schenfeld and Rena Gluck, who were the company's principal dancers for many years. Bethsabee de Rothschild withdrew her funding in 1975, and the company gradually shed the Graham aesthetic that had dominated its early years. During this transitional period, the company began including the works of emerging Israeli choreographers into its repertory. Yo-Yo Ma
Yo-Yo Ma (''Chinese'': 馬友友 ''Ma Yo Yo''; born October 7, 1955) is an American cellist. Born in Paris to Chinese parents and educated in New York City, he was a child prodigy, performing from the age of four and a half. He graduated from the Juilliard School and Harvard University and attended Columbia University and has performed as a soloist with orchestras around the world. Silk Road Project
Silkroad, formerly the Silk Road Project, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization, initiated by the cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998, promoting collaboration among artists and institutions, promoting multicultural artistic exchange, and studying the ebb and flow of ideas. The project was first inspired by the cultural traditions of the historical Eurasian Silk Road trade routes and now encompasses a number of artistic, cultural and educational programs focused on connecting people and ideas from around the world. Inbal Dance Theater ( he, תאטרון מחול ענבל, ''Teatron Makhol Inbal'') is Israel's first and oldest modern dance company, started in 1949. Margalit Oved
Margalit Oved (born 1934) is an American-Israeli dancer and choreographer, who was born in the Aden Protectorate. After being airlifted to Israel in 1949 in Operation Magic Carpet, she became involved with the Inbal Dance Theater for the following 15 years. She then moved the United States, where she taught at University of California, Los Angeles. Oved later returned to the Inbal Dance Theatre, and also worked with her son's Barak Marshall Theaterdance. She also founded her own group, the Margalit Dance Theatre Company in Los Angeles. Early life Margalit Oved was born around 1934 in the Aden Protectorate, as the seventh of nine children. Her father was a pearl merchant, and her mother was a midwife.
