Barahona () is a province of the Dominican Republic. The Barahona Coast is located on the southwestern part of the Dominican Republic approximately three hours drive from Santo Domingo the capital of the Dominican Republic. Ralph Joseph Barahona (born November 16, 1965) is an American former professional ice hockey center who played six games in the National Hockey League for the Boston Bruins. He scored two goals and two assists for four points in his brief NHL career. Prior to the NHL, Barahona played at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he won two National Championships in 1989 and 1990. Both of Barahona's two NHL goals came in the same game. Miguel Paz Barahona (3 September 1863 – 11 November 1937) was President of Honduras from 1 February 1925 to 1 February 1929. Barahona was a member of the National Party of Honduras (PNH). The PNH nominated Barahona as their presidential candidate in 1924. The other major political party, the Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH), refused to nominate a candidate, which led to Barahona winning the election with 99 percent of the vote. Luis Barahona de Soto (1548 – 5 November 1595) was a Spanish poet. Born at Lucena (Cordoba), he was educated at Granada, and practised as a physician at Archidona (Málaga). Barahona, also known as Santa Cruz de Barahona, is the main city of the Barahona Province, in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. It has one of the most active ports in the region, as well as many ecotourism attractions. The city is a centre of sugar production and industry.
