Banks Sports And Cultural Club
Wildey Sports and Cultural Club is a cricket club in Barbados. The club competes in the Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division competition, the premier cricket competition in Barbados. The club was established in 1964 for and by employees of Banks Brewery, a leading brewery in Barbados and until 2014 was called Banks Sports and Cultural ClubSandiford, p. 22. Until 2013, the club played at the Brewery Ground; it now plays at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology at Pine Hill. Unlike some Barbadian clubs established before the 1960s such as Pickwick, Wanderers and Carlton, Wildey began as a club primarily for black Barbadians. Admitted to Division 1 in 1973, Banks/Wildey has since won the Division 1 championship six times: 1978, 1979, 1986, 2001, 2002 and 2007. Zee Marathi is an Indian general entertainment channel which carries programming in Marathi language, Marathi. It is owned by Zee Entertainment Enterprises. The channel was launched on 15 August 1999 and was known as Alpha TV Marathi until 28 March 2005, then it was renamed as Zee Marathi. It is the first Marathi language, Marathi GEC channel. Barbados
Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. Barbados Cricket Association
The Barbados Cricket Association is the ruling body for cricket in Barbados. The BCA was established in 1933 by an Act of Parliament to replace the Barbados Cricket Challenge Cup Committee, which had administered Barbadian cricket since its formation in 1892. The current president is Conde Riley. Of the seven teams which participate in the inaugural season in 1892, four are still competing today – Lodge, Harrison College, Pickwick and Wanderers. From this small beginning the cricket fraternity has grown to such an extent that there are now 128 teams representing 82 clubs participating in the BCA's competitions. The Barbados Cricket Association organizes cricket from the level of Under-13 Juniors to Test matches which it coordinates on behalf of the West Indies Cricket Board. Banks (Barbados) Breweries Ltd. is a Caribbean brewery founded in 1961 in St. Michael, Barbados. It is part of the Banks Holdings Limited group. History Banks Beer was started as an idea formed by Peter D'Aguiar, a Guyanese entrepreneur. On September 7, 1961, Banks (Barbados) Breweries opened for business. In the beginning, the company only produced Banks Beer but by 1963 the company added two other products to its portfolio: Milk Stout and Tiger brand Malt, the latter of which can be found in the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Canada, Europe and the United States. Banks Holding Sports And Cultural Club Ground
Banks Holdings Sports and Cultural Club Ground was a cricket ground in Bridgetown, Barbados. History The ground was established in 1964, when the Banks Sports and Cultural Club was founded for the workers of the Banks Brewery. Having hosted club cricket matches for most of its history, the ground played host to two List A one-day matches in the 2005–06 KFC Cup between Guyana and Jamaica, and Barbados and the Leeward Islands. Banks Sports and Cultural Club used the ground until 2013, with the adjoining brewery closing and moving to a new facility at Newton Terrace. With the closure of the brewery, the club was renamed Wildey Sports and Cultural Club and moved to a new ground at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology in Pine Hill. The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology is a technical and vocational educational institution located in Pine Hill, Bridgetown, Barbados. History The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) laid its foundation in 1969 at the SJP Polytechnic. The institute's building is located near University Row, Deep Water Harbour, in Bridgetown. Pickwick Cricket Club is a Barbados cricket club. The club was founded on 23 November 1882, the second oldest cricket club in Barbados after Wanderers Cricket Club. The club's home from its foundation until 2005 was Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, the main venue for matches involving the Barbados national cricket team and the Barbados venue for Test cricket involving the West Indies cricket team. The ground was built on land on Kensington Plantation leased by the club for a penny per annum. Pickwick club developed Kensington Oval into the finest ground in Barbados and it soon replaced the Wanderers Ground and the Garrison Savanna as the venue for inter-colonial matches. Wanderers Cricket Club is a Barbadian cricket club. The club plays in the Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division, the highest division of domestic cricket in Barbados. Carlton Club is a cricket club in Barbados, competing in the Barbados Cricket Association Division 1 championship. The club is based in Black Rock, north of Bridgetown and its home ground is the Desmond Haynes Oval. Carlton was founded on 1 April 1940 as a club for "lower middle income whites and near whites for whom there was no space in Pickwick and Wanderers ricket clubs. Malcolm Marshall
Malcolm Denzil Marshall (18 April 1958 – 4 November 1999) was a Barbadian cricketer. Primarily a fast bowler, Marshall is widely regarded as one of the greatest and one of the most accomplished fast bowlers of the modern era in Test cricket. He was partly taught cricket by his grandfather, who helped to bring him up after his father's death. He played cricket for the Banks Brewery team from 1976. His first representative match was a 40-over affair for West Indies Young Cricketers against their English equivalents at Pointe-à-Pierre, Trinidad and Tobago in August 1976. Gordon Greenidge
Sir Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge (born 1 May 1951) is a Barbadian, former first-class cricketer, who represented the West Indies in Test and One-day Cricket for 17 years. Greenidge is regarded worldwide as one of the greatest and most destructive opening batsmen in cricket history. In 2009, Greenidge was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. Early life Born Cuthbert Gordon Lavine in St. Peter, Barbados, he was raised by his mother. At the ages of 8 and 14, he was raised by his grandmother after his mother moved to London (England) to find work. Vanburn Holder
Vanburn Alonzo Holder (born 10 October 1945) is a Barbadian former first-class cricketer who played in 40 Test matches and 12 One Day Internationals for the West Indies cricket team between 1969 and 1979. A fast-medium bowler, he bowled alongside the likes of Charlie Griffith and Wes Hall. Holder, who also played for English county cricket side Worcestershire, was appointed an honorary vice president of the club in 2021. Playing career He debuted in the tour of England in 1969 and returned again in 1973 as part of an improving side which ended a 6½-year streak of not having won a Test series.
