Bank Of Mauritius Headquarters (Port Louis)
The Bank of Mauritius Tower (also known as Bank of Mauritius Building or Bank of Mauritius Headquarters) is a skyscraper in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, and a home to Bank of Mauritius. It is the tallest building of the country. When measured to roof, it stands at 98 m (321 ft) and to pinnacle at 124 m (407 ft). The 16,834 m² reinforced concrete structure reached its final height in May 2006. The 22-storey building towers over the Citadel (a hill-top fortification in Port Louis) and is constructed in an area where highrises were once prohibited. It is also the second tallest structure in Mauritius after the much taller 183 m (600 ft) Bigara Station Transmitter (guyed mast) in the upper Plaines Wilhems. A guyed mast or guyed tower is a tall thin vertical structure that depends on guy lines (diagonal tensioned cables attached to the ground) for stability. The mast itself has the compressive strength to support its own weight, but does not have the shear strength to stand unsupported. It requires guy lines to stay upright and to resist lateral forces such as wind loads. Guy lines are usually spaced at equal angles about the structure's base. Plaines Wilhems () is a district of Mauritius. It is the most populous district, with its population estimated at 366,506 as the end of 2018. The district is mainly urban; it consists of four towns, the village of Midlands and part of two other villages. The Plaines Wilhems district does not have a District Council; it has four Municipal Town Councils. The towns are Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill, Curepipe, Quatre Bornes and Vacoas-Phoenix. Ebene () is a suburb of Quatre Bornes, Mauritius, south of the capital, Port Louis. Construction began in November 2001, with the suburb being promoted as a new information technology hub for Mauritius and as a link between African and Asian markets. Curepipe () also known as ''La Ville-Lumière'' (The City of Light), is a town in Mauritius, located in the Plaines Wilhems District, the eastern part also lies in the Moka District. The town is administered by the Municipal Council of Curepipe. Curepipe lies at a higher elevation, often referred to as the "Central Plateau". According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2018, the population of the town was at 78,618. Etymology The town's name, Curepipe, is said to be originated from the French ''curer sa pipe'', which translates to "cleaning his/her pipe".
