The Bank Austria Open was a golf tournament on the Challenge Tour, played in July 1992–1994 at Donnerskirchen in Burgenland, Austria. The Bank Austria Open should not be confused with the 2008 edition of the Austrian Open on the European Tour, which was known as Bank Austria GolfOpen for sponsorship reasons. Donnerskirchen
Donnerskirchen ( hu, Fertőfehéregyháza, hr, Bijela Crikva) is a market town in the district Eisenstadt-Umgebung in the Austrian state of Burgenland. History World War II During World War II a small concentration camp was located near the village. In 1951, Nikolaus Schorn was convicted of the murder of Jewish slave laborers in the Donnerskirchen camp in January, 1945, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Schorn was head of the camp. Stuart Cage
Stuart Cage (born 16 July 1973) is an English professional golfer. Cage won the English Amateur in 1992 and played for Great Britain & Ireland in the 1993 Walker Cup. He turned professional in 1993 and having finished 8th on the second tier Challenge Tour Rankings the following year, was a rookie on the European Tour in 1995. He nearly won the Irish Open during that first season, losing out to the experienced Sam Torrance to a playoff. Two years later he won his only European Tour title, at the Europe 1 Cannes Open. Gordon Manson
Gordon David Manson (born 19 May 1960) is a Scottish-born Austrian professional golfer. Manson has had a successful career on the European Senior Tour which he joined in 2011. Manson led the final stage of the 2010 Qualifying school after three of the four rounds but had a last round of 75 to finish tied for seventh place, receiving a conditional card for the 2011 season. He has won twice; the 2015 Swiss Seniors Open and the 2016 Acorn Jersey Open. Stephen Dodd
Stephen Christopher Dodd (born 15 July 1966) is a Welsh professional golfer who after a moderate career, unexpectedly won two events on the European Tour in the 2005 season at the age of 38 and won a third time in 2006. He also won the 2005 WGC-World Cup in partnership with Bradley Dredge. Since turning 50 he has won four times on the European Senior Tour, including the 2021 Senior Open Championship. Personal life Dodd was born in Cardiff. He resides in Barry, Wales with his wife Allison and their son Liam. Amateur career Dodd had a successful amateur career highlighted by victory in The Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale in 1989, which qualified him to play in The Open Championship that year and the Masters Tournament the following year. Jean-François Remésy
Jean-François Remésy (born 5 June 1964), also known as Jeff Remésy, is a French professional golfer. Career Remésy was born in Nîmes, Occitania. He won the French Amateur Championship in 1985 and turned professional in 1987. For much of his career he has struggled to establish himself as a tour golfer, and he has made over a dozen trips to the European Tour Qualifying School. His first professional win came in a small tournament in France in 1991 and he won on the Challenge Tour in 1994, but he didn't break into the top 100 on the European Tour Order of Merit until 1999. That year he won the Estoril Open on the main tour, and he has continued to progress since then. Klas Eriksson (born 30 July 1971) is a Sweden, Swedish professional golfer. Eriksson was born in Växjö and turned professional in 1991 having won the European Amateur and the French Amateur Stoke Play Championship the previous year. He finished 45th on the Order of Merit in his rookie season, but injuries and putting problems meant he failed to retain his card at the end of the 1998 season and he was back on the Challenge Tour in 1999. It is operated by the PGA European Tour and, as with on the main European Tour and the European Senior Tour, some of the events are played outside Europe. History The tour was introduced in 1986 and was initially called the ''Satellite Tour''. The Order of Merit was introduced in 1989, with the top five players on it winning membership of the European Tour for the following season. The following year the tour was renamed the Challenge Tour. Up to 1993 the Challenge Tour rankings were based on each player's best several results, but since 1994 it has been a straightforward money list, with all results counting.
