Syrian League 1st Division
Syrian League 1st Division ( ar, الدوري السوري الدرجة الأولى) is the second division in football in Syria. It is operated by the Syrian Football Association (SFA). The league began to play in 1960s. After each season the two top clubs are promoted to the Premier League, and the bottom clubs are relegated to the Syrian League 2nd Division. In the 2021–22 season, Al-Majd and Al-Jazeera SC won the title and they were promoted to Premier League. In 2021–22 season, the league consists of 24 clubs divided into 4 groups based on their geographical distribution. However, the final round consists of 8 teams divided into two groups. Baniyas
Baniyas ( ar, بَانِيَاس ') is a Mediterranean coastal city in Tartous Governorate, northwestern Syria, located south of Latakia (ancient Laodicea) and north of Tartous (ancient Tortosa). It is known for its citrus fruit orchards and its export of wood. North of the city is an oil refinery, one of the largest in Syria, and a power station. The oil refinery is connected with Iraq with Kirkuk–Baniyas pipeline (now defunct). On a nearby hill stands the Crusader castle of Margat (Qalaat el-Marqab), a huge Knights Hospitaller fortress built with black basalt stone. The Syrian Premier League ( ar, الدوري السوري الممتاز) is a professional association football league in Syria and the top division in of the Syrian football league system. The league comprises 12 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Syrian League 1st Division. The Syrian Premier League was founded in 1966, unifying the local leagues that had existed previously. Seasons mostly run from August to May. The first team to win the title was Al-Ittihad in 1967, whilst Al-Jaish has the record with 17 league titles. Their closest rivals, Al-Karamah, have won the league 8 times. 2011–12 Syrian Premier League
The 2011–12 Syrian Premier League season is the 41st since its establishment. The 2010–11 Syrian Premier League, 2010–11 league campaign was suspended due to the Syrian civil war. This seasons league will feature two stages. Stage one will pit two groups of eight teams and kicked off on 9 October. The top four off each group would advance to the Championship pool to determine the overall league champions. The bottom four placed sides would enter the relegation pool to determine who would be relegated. Teams Two teams were promoted from the 2nd tier league; Hurriya SC based in Aleppo and Baniyas Refinery SC representing the city of Baniyas. No club was relegated from the previous season due to the 2011 Syrian uprising which forced the league to be suspended. Syrian Cup
The Syrian Cup ( ar, سوريا) is Syria's premier knockout Cup tournament in men's football. It was first contested in 1959. Al-Ittihad SC has won the competition on 10 occasions. The final was first played in the 1960-61 season during the UAR era and won by Al-Majd SC. The tournament has been held annually since then except for the 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 seasons. The record for consecutive wins in the competition is four titles, only two teams have achieved such as Al-Karamah and Al-Fotuwa. Al-Ittihad are the current title holders.
