Bangon Pilipinas
Bangon Pilipinas Party (BPP, ) or Bangon is a political party in the Philippines, formed in 2004 as the Bangon Pilipinas Movement. It is the political vehicle of its leader, televangelist Eddie Villanueva. Villanueva ran for president on 2004 and 2010, but lost on both elections. The party put up a senatorial slate for the 2010 elections but none of its candidates won. Villanueva's son, Eduardo "Jon-Jon" Villanueva, Jr. was the highest ranking elected official of the party, serving as mayor of Bocaue, Bulacan; he ran as the Liberal Party's candidate for mayor in the 2013 elections and won. In the 2016 Senate election, the party endorsed another Villanueva son, then TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva. He won the second highest number of votes in that election. Eduardo Cruz Villanueva (born October 6, 1946), most commonly referred to as "Bro. Eddie Villanueva", is an evangelist and president-founder of the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide (JILCW). Villanueva was previously a communist- atheist, radical activist, and street parliamentarian. During martial law, he was imprisoned twice for fighting alongside the oppressed for their rights against land grabbing syndicates. Villanueva is also the founder of the Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM), which has more than forty bishops from different Christian churches nationwide as members. The 2016 Philippine presidential and vice presidential elections were held on Monday, May 9, 2016, as part of the 2016 general election. This was the 16th direct presidential election in the Philippines since 1935 and the fifth sextennial presidential election since 1992. Incumbent president Benigno Aquino III was ineligible for re-election, pursuant to the 1987 Philippine Constitution. Incumbent vice president Jejomar Binay was eligible for re-election but chose to run for the presidency instead. Therefore, this election determined the 16th president and the 14th vice president.
