Bane (DC Comics), Bane was originally a comic book character (arts), character and Batman's adversary, but has appeared in several other forms of media. He has been portrayed in live action by Robert Swenson in ''Batman & Robin (film), Batman & Robin'', Tom Hardy in ''The Dark Knight Rises'', and Shane West in ''Gotham (TV series), Gotham''. ''The Dark Knight Rises'' is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan, and the story with David S. Goyer.
