Bandstand (TV Program)
''Bandstand'' is an Australian live pop music, variety television program screened from November 1958 to June 1972. Featuring both local and international music artists, and produced in-house at the studios of the Nine Network in Willoughby, New South Wales, it was originally broadcast only in New South Wales, It became a national program in the early 1960s as the network expanded into other Australian states. The host of ''Bandstand'' for its entire existence was radio presenter and television newsreader Brian Henderson. Although unrelated, the program was based on the concept of the American pop music show '' American Bandstand''. Founding ''Bandstand'' was created in November 1958 by television executive Bruce Gyngell in consultation with Mayfield B. Anthony. Dinah Lee
Diane Marie Jacobs (born 19 August 1943), known as Dinah Lee, is a New Zealand singer who performed 1960s pop and adult contemporary music. Her debut single from early 1964, "Don't You Know Yockomo?", achieved No. 1 chart success in New Zealand and in the Australian cities of Brisbane and Melbourne. It was followed in September by her cover version of Jackie Wilson's, "Reet Petite", which also reached No. 1 in New Zealand and peaked at No. 6 in Melbourne. The Australian release was a double A-sided single with "Do the Blue Beat". On her early singles she was backed by fellow New Zealanders, Max Merritt & His Meteors. Pat Carroll (singer)
Pat Carroll (born 1946) is an Australian singer in the 1960s and early 1970s, she is probably best known for her television appearances and her collaboration with Olivia Newton-John. Biography and career Carroll was born in Melbourne, Victoria began her entertainment career at age eight when she started taking singing and dancing lessons. Appearances on children's TV shows followed by the time she was eleven years old. She continued by appearing in musical comedy shows such as ''Carnival'' and ''Bye Bye Birdie''. Catherine Anne Warnes (7 December 1949 – 20 July 1969), professionally Cathy Wayne, was an Australian singer and dancer, who was killed during a tour of Vietnam at a United States Marine Corps, United States Marine Base where she was hosting with others a music concert to entertain the troops during the Vietnam War conflict. Lana Cantrell
Lana Eleanor Cantrell AM (born 7 August 1943) is an Australian-American singer and entertainment lawyer. She was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in the Grammy Awards of 1968. Music career Cantrell recorded six albums for RCA Victor during the 1960s. Her preferred style of music was pop standards, but she later made contemporary pop rock a significant part of her performances. Helen Maxine Reddy (25 October 194129 September 2020) was an Australian-American singer, actress, television host, and activist. Born in Melbourne to a showbusiness family, Reddy started her career as an entertainer at age four. She sang on radio and television and won a talent contest on the television program '' Bandstand'' in 1966; her prize was a ticket to New York City and a record audition, which was unsuccessful. She pursued her international singing career by moving to Chicago, and subsequently, Los Angeles, where she made her debut singles " One Way Ticket" and " I Believe in Music" in 1968 and 1970, respectively. Peter Allen (born Peter Richard Woolnough; 10 February 1944 – 18 June 1992) was an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and entertainer, known for his flamboyant stage persona, boundless energy, and lavish costumes. His songs were made popular by many recording artists, including Elkie Brooks, Melissa Manchester and Olivia Newton-John, including Newton-John's first chart topping hit " I Honestly Love You", and the chart topping and Academy Award winning "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" by Christopher Cross. The Allen Brothers were an Australian cabaret act of Peter Allen and singer and guitarist Chris Bell. Allen was then Peter Woolnough, when at the age of fifteen he met Chris Bell, part of a singing duo, The Two Shades. When the other member of The Two Shades departed it was Bell's father who picked the name Allen Brothers for Chris and Peter. Digby Richards
Digby George "Dig" Richards (12 September 194017 February 1983) was an Australian rock and roll singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, musical theatre actor and television presenter, active during the late 1950s and early 1960s as lead singer with the R'Jays. Richards was the first Australian rock and roll artist to record a 12" LP record in Australia, with the self-titled album ''Dig Richards'', released in November 1959. Leo De Kroo
Leo de Kroo (born 8 July 1941) is an Australian pop and country music singer, and an accomplished luthier. For much of the 1960s he was a regular performer on ''Bandstand'', a pop music TV show, hosted by Brian Henderson. De Kroo was one half of The De Kroo Bros (with his friend Doug Brewer who later changed his surname to de Kroo so they could take the stage name, as well as travel overseas, under the name of "The De Kroo Bros").
