Bandola (horse)
Bandola (March 26, 1948 – March 26, 1983) was a gray Arabian mare, known for her title, "The Queen of Poland." She was sired by Witraz, out of the Polish-bred mare, Balalajka. Life Bandola was foaled at Poland's Albigowa Stud on March 26, 1948. She was sired by Witraz, by the famed Ofir, who also sired Witez II, and out of Balalajka, by Amurath-Sahib.Carpenter ''Legends'' pp. 14–29 Balalajka has been considered one of Poland's finest broodmares. In the spring of 1951, Bandola was sent to the Warsaw racecourses. She raced 23 times in 2 years. One year later, she was sent back to Albigowa, where she first produced premature twins, but continued to be a breeding mare. Negatiw
Negatiw, sometimes anglicized Negativ, (August 5, 1945 – 1973) was a Gray (horse), gray Russian-born Arabian horse, Arabian stallion. He was sired by Naseem (horse), Naseem, a Skowronek (horse), Skowronek son bred in England, out of the Polish-bred mare, Taraszcza. Negatiw was credited as the stallion that returned the Ibrahim sire line to Poland. He is also regarded as the most internationally influential grandson of Skowronek. Life and career Negatiw, was foaled at Russia's Tersk Stud in 1945. He was sired by the Crabbet Arabian Stud, Crabbet-bred stallion Naseem, out of the Polish-bred mare, Taraszcza. Bandos (1964 – September 1987) was a gray Arabian stallion with Crabbet ancestry. He was sired by Negatiw, a Tersk bred stud, out of Bandola, who was known by the title of "Queen of Poland". Bandos was a sire in Poland for 11 years, and in 1982, he was imported to the United States. Life and career Bandos was foaled at Poland's Janow Podlaski Stud in 1964. He was sired by Negatiw, who was by the Skowronek son, Naseem, and out of the Polish-bred mare, Bandola. His dam was a full sister to Bask, a sire of significance. Bandos himself, at a young age, was nicknamed the "King of Janow". Bandos was considered to be one of the most influential Saglawi-type stallions. Sheila Varian
Sheila Varian (August 8, 1937 – March 6, 2016) was an American breeder of Arabian horses who lived and worked at the Varian Arabians Ranch near Arroyo Grande, California. She grew up with a strong interest in horses, and was mentored in horsemanship by Mary "Sid" Spencer, a local rancher and Morgan horse breeder who also introduced Varian to the '' vaquero'' or "Californio" tradition of western riding. She started her horse ranch, Varian Arabians, in 1954 with the assistance of her parents. Raising and training horses was her full-time occupation beginning in 1963.
