Bandido (Azúcar Moreno Song)
"Bandido" (; "Bandit") is a song recorded by Spanish sister duo Azúcar Moreno, written by , and José Luis Abel. It is best known as the entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1990, held in Zagreb. Internal selection Televisión Española (TVE), the national broadcaster of Spain, used an internal selection process to choose Azúcar Moreno, who were becoming popular by combining traditional Spanish flamenco roots with urban contemporary musical styles, in this case electronic music. "Bandido", the song chosen to go with them to Zagreb, Croatia (then Yugoslavia), was produced by Raúl Orellana, one of the most respected dance music producers in Spain. The studio recording includes the spoken intro "Ladies and gentlemen, it's showtime at the Apollo Theater. Azúcar Moreno (; Spanish language, Spanish for "brown sugar") is a Spanish music duo composed of sisters Antonia "Toñi" and Encarnación "Encarna" Salazar. The duo has sold more than 3 million albums and singles since 1984 domestically, and became famous in Europe, the United States and Latin America in the 1990s, with approximately 12 million albums sold worldwide. ''Azúcar'' is an album by the Cuban band Los Van Van. It was released in the United States in 1994, the band's first album in eight years to be widely distributed. Due to the U.S. embargo, the band did not tour behind the album until 1996. Production The album was recorded in 1992. Paul De Leeuw
Paul Henri de Leeuw (born 26 March 1962) is a Dutch television comedian, singer and actor. De Leeuw gained national fame in the late eighties and early nineties with television shows for broadcasting company VARA. Though satire was only a part of these shows and much of its humour was essentially harmless, he came into publicity with satire about Dutch show business personalities who were often ridiculed. Many obscure musical acts were featured in his shows, many of which managed to gain national fame after they had been in De Leeuw's show (e.g. Twarres and René Klijn, a former boyband member who contracted HIV).
