Banda is a constituency of the parliament of Ghana, located in the Banda District in the Bono Region. Ahmed Ibrahim is the member of parliament for the constituency, elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and winning a majority of 6,167 votes representing 52.03%MPs elected in the Ghanaian parliamentary election, 2016 to become the MP in the 2016 general presidential and parliamentary elections. Banda District is one of the twelve districts in Bono Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tain District on 17 February 2004; until the northern part of the district was split off to create Banda District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tain District. The district assembly is located in the northeast part of Bono Region and has Banda Ahenkro Banda Ahenkro is a town located in the west-northern of Bono region, Ghana, near the border of Ivory Coast. Bono Region
The Bono region is one of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. It is as a result of the remainder of Brong-Ahafo region when Bono East region and Ahafo region were created. Sunyani, also known as the green city of Ghana, is the regional capital. Sunyani can pride itself as the cleanest capital city and a major conference destination. Creation of the region The region was created after the Ahafo region and Bono East region respectively have been carved out of the then Brong-Ahafo region. This was in fulfillment of a promise made by candidate Nana Akuffo Addo in his 2016 campaign activities. Ahmed Ibrahim is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress. He is currently the Deputy Minority Chief Whip in the Parliament of Ghana. Early life and education Ibrahim was born on 6 May 1974, in Banda Ahenkro in the Bono Region of Ghana. Ibrahim studied at the University of Ghana where he received a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Philosophy in 2001. Career He was the chief executive officer of Flamingo Publications (Ghana) Limited. National Democratic Congress (Ghana)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana, founded by Jerry Rawlings, who was Head of State of Ghana from 1981 to 1993 and the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981, there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992, in which Rawlings was elected president, and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001. The NDC lost the presidency in the 2000 election, and it was not until the 2008 election, that they regained it with John Atta Mills as its candidate. This is a list of the 275 constituencies represented in the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, as at the December 2016 general election. It had been increased from 260 at the previous election in December 2012 parliamentary election. Each constituency is represented by a single member of parliament (MP). There were 230 parliamentary constituencies previously. History At the time Ghana became an independent country, there were 104 seats in parliament. This increased to 198 after 1965 when Ghana became a one party state. At the start of the Second Republic in 1969, the number of seats were increased to 140. The Parliament of Ghana is the legislative body of the Government of Ghana. History Legislative representation in Ghana dates back to 1850, when the country was a British colony known as Gold Coast. The election of Members of Parliament (MPs) to the 7th Parliament of the Fourth Republic was held on 7 December 2016. The Speaker is not an elected member of parliament though he/she is qualified to stand for election as such. There are a total of 275 constituencies in Ghana. 45 new constituencies were created prior to the 2012 election.
