Bambesa Territory
Bambesa is a territory of the province of Bas-Uele resulting from the dismemberment of the former Orientale province. Its administrative center is the town of Bambesa. Orientale Province
Orientale Province ( French: ''Province orientale'', "Eastern province") is one of the former provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its predecessors the Congo Free State and the Belgian Congo. It went through a series of boundary changes between 1898 and 2015, when it was divided into smaller units. The District of Orientale Province was created from Stanley Falls District on 15 July 1898. The district was expanded to become Orientale Province in 1913. It was divided in 1933 into Costermansville (later Kivu) and Stanleyville Province. Stanleyville Province was renamed Orientale Province from 1947 to 1963, when it was broken up into Kibali-Ituri, Uélé and Haut-Congo provinces. Orientale Province was reconstituted in 1966. Between 1971 and 1997 it was called Haut-Zaïre, then it returned to the name of Orientale. The province contained the Bas-Uele, Haut-Uele, Ituri and Tshopo districts. Makongo
Makongo (or Bakongo, Bakongoi, Bakongai etc.) is a settlement in the Bas-Uélé province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Location Makongo is in Bambesa Territory, Bas-Uélé province. Makongo River
The Makongo River (french: Rivière Makongo) is a river of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is a left tributary of the Bomokandi River, which in turn is a tributary of the Uele River. Course The Makongo flows through the province of Bas-Uélé in a generally NNE direction to its confluence with the Bomokandi. The river rises to the south of the RP415 road. It roughly defines the boundary between the Ganga Dingila Health Zone to the west and the Poko Health Zone to the east. It passes the village of Makongo on its left bank. It enters the Bomokandi to the northwest of Digili. It flows through the Bambesa Territory. History The oral history of the Lika people of Wamba Territory states that they came from Bambili (Boa). Bima River
The Bima River is a river of Bas-Uélé province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is a left tributary of the Uele River. Course The Bima flows through the Poko, Bambesa and Buta territories and enters the Uele River near Malengweya. The Bima is among the most important of the tributaries of the Uele, the others being the Uere River and the Bomokandi River. The Andu River is a large right tributary of the Bima.
