Balwinder Rana
Balwinder Singh Rana (born 1947) is an Indian-British anti-racism and anti-fascism activist. He was a cofounder and the first president of the Indian Youth Federation in Gravesend, the first Indian youth organisation in the UK. Life Originally from Punjab, India, Balwinder Rana moved to the United Kingdom aged 16, in December 1963. He joined his father and two older brothers to live in Gravesend, Kent. He spent five years working in factories, experiencing constant casual racism. While studying for his A Levels at Gravesend College, he remembers an upsurge in racism after Enoch Powell's 1968 Rivers of Blood speech. Rana and other students set up the Indian Youth Federation in Gravesend in 1969, combining its public launch with Indian Independence Day celebrations. Anti-racism
Anti-racism encompasses a range of ideas and political actions which are meant to counter racial prejudice, systemic racism, and the oppression of specific racial groups. Anti-racism is usually structured around conscious efforts and deliberate actions which are intended to provide equal opportunities for all people on both an individual and a systemic level. As a philosophy, it can be engaged in by the acknowledgment of personal privileges, confronting acts as well as systems of racial discrimination, and/or working to change personal racial biases. The Football Lads Alliance (FLA) was a right-wing movement in the United Kingdom founded by John Meighan in 2017. According to ''The Times'', "the movement was set up as a self-proclaimed 'anti-extremist' movement" but had increasingly become associated with far-right politics and far-right activists. The Premier League has warned clubs that "the group is using fans and stadiums to push an anti-Muslim agenda". Concern has also been expressed that the Alliance is "giving cover to the far right" and "uses a secret Facebook page full of violent, racist and misogynistic posts". The English Defence League (EDL) is a far-right, Islamophobic organisation in the United Kingdom. A social movement and pressure group that employs street demonstrations as its main tactic, the EDL presents itself as a single-issue movement opposed to Islamism and Islamic extremism, although its rhetoric and actions target Islam and Muslims more widely. Sikhs ( or ; pa, ਸਿੱਖ, ' ) are people who adhere to Sikhism (Sikhi), a monotheistic religion that originated in the late 15th century in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent, based on the revelation of Guru Nanak.
