Ballybay () is a town and civil parish in County Monaghan, Ireland. The town is centred on the crossroads of the R183 and R162 regional roads. Geography The town is the meeting point for roads going to Monaghan, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross and Clones. The town grew up from the convergence of the roads. The town is built beside a large lake, Lough Major (In Irish "Lough Mór") and the smaller Lough Minor. The Dromore River also runs through the south of the town, past Pearse Brother's Football Grounds, and past the Riverdale Hotel. History The town was founded in the eighteenth century by members of the Jackson family. They worked in the linen industry . The Town Council was established in 1870. Newbliss (), historically known as Lisdaragh (), is a village and townland in County Monaghan, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The village is located where the R183 road, R183 and R189 road, R189 Regional road (Ireland), regional roads intersect. Transport Rail services do not serve Newbliss, as Newbliss railway station (which opened in 1855) was closed for passenger traffic on 14 October 1957, and closed altogether on 1 January 1960. Doohamlet
Doohamlet ( ; ), is a village and townland on the Castleblayney–Ballybay road in County Monaghan, Ireland. It is part of a wider parish of Clontibret in the diocese of Clogher. Doohamlet village is located approximately three miles from the N2 Dublin-Derry route on the R183 road. The wider district comprises around thirty townlands. Doohamlet has its own GAA club, founded in 1906, and football grounds opened in 1984. It also has a church dedicated to The Blessed Virgin and All Saints, opened in May 1861 and completed in 1882. The church was sometimes referred to as the 'Bog Chapel' due it being on the site of a penal day Mass hut or ''bothog'', the last known such Mass site in the Catholic diocese of Clogher. The adjoining cemetery dates from the 1920s. There is a primary school called All Saints National School, opened on its present site in 1994. A Childcare facility is also adjoining the school. Slane () is a village in County Meath, in Ireland. The village stands on a steep hillside on the left bank of the River Boyne at the intersection of the N2 (Dublin to Monaghan road) and the N51 (Drogheda to Navan road). Ardee
Ardee (; , ) is a town and townland in County Louth, Ireland. It is located at the intersection of the N2, N52, and N33 roads. The town shows evidence of development from the thirteenth century onward but as a result of the continued development of the town since then much of the fabric of the medieval town has been removed. Ardee is on the banks of the River Dee and is equidistant between the county's two biggest towns - approximately 20 km (12 mi) from Dundalk and Drogheda, while it is also close to Slane and Carrickmacross. Clones, County Monaghan
Clones ( ; , meaning 'meadow of Eois') is a small town in western County Monaghan, Ireland. The area is part of the Border Region, earmarked for economic development by the Irish Government due to its currently below-average economic situation. The town was badly hit economically by the Partition of Ireland in 1921 because of its location on the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The creation of the Irish border deprived it of access to a large part of its economic hinterland for many years. The town had a population of 1,680 at the 2016 census.
