Ballet Austin
Ballet Austin is the 12th largest classical ballet company in the US, and also operates the largest combined training facility associated with a professional ballet company in the United States. Each year the Ballet Austin company performs ballets from a wide variety of choreographers, including Stephen Mills. Performances Ballet Austin has performed in a State Department trip to Europe as well as at the Joyce Theater in New York City and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Education The Ballet Austin Academy serves more than 900 students each year as one of the largest classical ballet schools in the country. Stephen Mills
Stephen Mills (born August 18, 1960 in Morganfield, Kentucky) is an American dancer and choreographer and is currently the Artistic Director/Choreographer at Ballet Austin. Under his tenure, Ballet Austin has been invited on four occasions to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Joyce Theater
The Joyce Theater (“The Joyce") is a 472-seat dance performance venue located in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. The building opened in 1941 as the Elgin Theater, a movie house, and was gut-renovated and reconfigured in 1981-82 to reopen as the Joyce Theater. Stanley Hall (dancer)
Stanley Hall (1917-1994) was a British-born ballet dancer with an eclectic career that ranged from the Vic-Wells Ballet (later the Royal Ballet) to the Ballets de Paris, from major Hollywood movies to Broadway, and from TV specials to celebrity nightclub acts. Hall moved to Austin, Texas in the late 1960s and founded Austin Ballet Theatre, a ballet company that enjoyed great popularity for its monthly performances at the Armadillo World Headquarters from 1972 to 1980. In addition to his performance legacy, he was also a teacher and mentor to many aspiring dancers in Austin until his death in 1994.
