Chris Ballentine
Dr. Chris Ballentine is the chair of geochemistry and head of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom. He uses properties of the noble gases to understand the origin and evolution of Earth's atmosphere and mantle. Career Ballentine earned his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge in 1992. He went on to hold research positions at the Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland, the University of Michigan, and ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2001 to 2013, he held positions at the University of Manchester before joining the faculty at the University of Oxford. Ballentine has held the vice president, president, and past president positions with the European Association of Geochemistry. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Oxford Museum of Natural History and the American Geophysical Union, as well as a former scientific steering committee member for the Deep Carbon Observatory. The Ballentine Place Historic District is a national historic district located at Norfolk, Virginia. It encompasses 860 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing object in a cohesive residential neighborhood located near the center of Norfolk. It was platted in 1909, and largely developed between 1915 and 1953. The district includes a park developed in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Ballandean is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Ballandean had a population of 338 people. Ballandean is in the Granite Belt Region of the Southern Downs. It is on the Queensland border with New South Wales. The town has a number of nearby vineyards which attracted tourists to the area. Geography The Severn River marks part of the northern boundary. Kelvin Grove Creek, Washpool Creek, Accommodation Creek and Smiths Creek all flow through Ballandean into the Severn River. The New England Highway passes through Ballandean from north to south in the north-east of Ballandean in close parallel to the Southern railway line. Ballentine-Shealy House, also known as the Ballentine-Shealy-Slocum House, is a historic home located near Lexington, Lexington County, South Carolina. It was built in the late-18th or early-19th century, and is a -story, rectangular log building. It is sheathed in weatherboard and has a standing seam metal gable roof. It has shed rooms on the rear and a one-story shed-roofed front porch with an enclosed room. The house has a hall-and-parlor plan and an enclosed stair. An open breezeway connects the house to the kitchen (ca. 1870), which has a fieldstone and brick chimney and a side porch. Ballentine is an unincorporated community in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina metropolitan area. 2020 census As of the 2020 United States census, there were 8,110 people, 2,495 households, and 1,909 families residing in the CDP. History The community was named after the Ballentine family of pioneer settlers. In 1925, Ballentine had 50 inhabitants. There have been unsuccessful attempts to incorporate Ballentine as a town. Corey Ballentine (born April 13, 1996) is a Jamaican professional American football cornerback for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Washburn, and was selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
