Balgownie Rangers Football Club is an association football club based in Balgownie, New South Wales. They play in the Illawarra District League. Founded in 1883, Balgownie is believed to be the oldest running association football club in Australia. History Balgownie Rangers is the oldest running registered association football club in Australia, being formed in 1883. The club was formed in 1883 where it played against other social clubs and also between Balgownie teams. In 1890, Balgownie Rangers was officially registered to play in the newly formed N.S.W. Football Association. Balgownie was the 4th club to form in Australia. Wanderers, Arcadian and Granville had formed 1883. Since then all of these clubs have folded, Granville being the last to fold in the early 1980s, making Balgownie Rangers the oldest registered running soccer club in Australia. Balgownie () is a small suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Balgownie lies to the north-west of the Wollongong CBD. It stretches from the lower slopes of Mount Keira along the Illawarra escarpment to the base of the Broker's Nose promontory. Judy Masters
James William "Judy" Masters (21 May 1892 – 2 December 1955) was a football (soccer) player who captained the Australia national association football team in five matches in 1923 and 1924. Masters was recognised as one of Australia's best players of his time. In over 400 club and representative games he was never cautioned. Biography Masters was born in 1892 to Alexander George Masters and Frances Eliza Masters, née Campbell and was one of thirteen children. His father had been a miner born in Nova Scotia and his mother was from Sydney. Masters first captained the Balgownie Public School team at the age of 12. George Barlow (soccer)
George Barlow (born 7 February 1933 in Stoke, UK) is a retired Australian footballer. Club career George Barlow spent his adult career (1952-1959) playing for Balgownie Rangers FC. This included the period of 1957-1959 during which he captained the side. Barlow led the side to victory in the 1957 Sydney Cup (State League Div 1 championships). He represented NSW (against Blackpool in their 1958 tour) and was selected for the national side once. Barlow began his career as a junior with Port Vale FC. Barlow initially played as an inside right but transitioned into a centre half later in his career. He retired in 1959 after an ankle injury. Matt Horsley
Matt Horsley (born 9 June 1972 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian retired footballer. Club career He last played as a right full back for the Australian A-League club Perth Glory in 2005, which he joined in 2001. Horsley had previously captained the Wollongong Wolves, with whom he played from 1990 to 2001.
