Baldy Man
''The Baldy Man'' is a television series starring Gregor Fisher, a Scottish comedian. It was broadcast in two series comprising thirteen episodes on ITV, screening in 1995 and 1998, and produced for Carlton Television by Working Title Films. Both series were also broadcast in full on Russian channel TB6 Moscow. The character's chief attributes were his comb over hairstyle as well as his bumbling nature and plump figure. The series was produced and directed by Colin Gilbert who worked with Fisher in Scotland's well known situation comedy ''Rab C. Nesbitt'' among many others. It was written by Philip Differ who was the script editor on ''Naked Video''. Gregor Fisher
Gregor Fisher (born 22 December 1953) is a Scottish comedian and actor. He is best known for his portrayal of the title character in the comedy series ''Rab C. Nesbitt'', a role he has played since the show's first episode in 1988. He has also had roles in films such as ''Without a Clue'' (1988), ''Love Actually'' (2003), ''The Merchant of Venice'' (2004) and '' Whisky Galore!'' (2016). Early life Fisher was born in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, and following the death of his mother was brought up in Edinburgh, Langholm, and Neilston and attended Barrhead High School. He attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, at which he did not complete his studies. Career Fisher worked with Scottish comedian Rikki Fulton on his hit sketch series ''Scotch and Wry'' (whose broadcast was mainly restricted to BBC One Scotland). Lionel Blair
Lionel Blair (born Henry Lionel Ogus; 12 December 1928 – 4 November 2021) was a Canadian-born British actor, choreographer, tap dancer, and television presenter. From the late 1960s until the early 1980s, he made regular appearances as a dancer and entertainer on British television. He also presented the quiz programme ''Name That Tune'', and was a team captain on the televised charades gameshow ''Give Us a Clue''. Early life Henry Lionel Ogus was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was born to Jewish parents, Myer Ogus and Debora "Della" Greenbaum. His father, a barber, emigrated from Russia to Canada to start a new life, and his wife joined him shortly afterwards. Hamlet (cigar)
Hamlet is a brand of cigar produced by the Gallaher Group division of Japan Tobacco. They are available in several varieties, miniatures and also a regular length. They were regularly referred to as the 'mild cigar' in their advertising. Hamlet cigars were first launched in the UK in 1964, and more recently have been launched in a number of other western European markets. They are most famous in the UK for their comical advertisements, which presented scenes in which a man, having failed dismally at something, is consoled by lighting a Hamlet cigar. Much of the humour in the ads came from the fact that the product being advertised was deliberately unclear until the tell-tale cigar appeared, accompanied by the tune of Bach's Air on the G String, played by French musician Jacques Loussier, and the line " Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet". John Grieve (actor)
John Grieve (14 June 1924 – 21 January 2003) was a Scottish actor, best known as the engineer Macphail in the BBC adaptation of Neil Munro's Para Handy stories, ''Para Handy - Master Mariner'' (1959–60), returning to that role in the BBC Scotland version, ''The Vital Spark'' (1965–67, 1973–74). Born in Maryhill, Glasgow, Grieve attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, before joining the Citizens Theatre in 1951. Grieve worked in variety alongside many familiar Scottish comedians, including Stanley Baxter and Jimmy Logan. Although principally known for his comic roles, he appeared in drama films such as '' The Thirty-Nine Steps'' (1978), '' Eye of the Needle'' (1981) and the BBC docudrama ''Square Mile of Murder'' (1980). Iain Cuthbertson (4 January 1930 – 4 September 2009) was a Scottish character actor and theatre director. He was known for his tall imposing build and also his distinctive gravelly, heavily accented voice. Greg Hemphill
Gregory Edward Hemphill (born 14 December 1969) is a Scottish-Canadian comedian, actor, writer, and director. He is best known for his work with Ford Kiernan on the BBC Scotland comedy series ''Chewin' The Fat'' (1999–2005) and ''Still Game'' (2002–2007, 2016–2019). Hemphill was Rector of the University of Glasgow (2001–2004). Personal life Hemphill was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Edward, a chartered accountant, and Anne Hemphill (née Brophy) a teacher.
