Balaka District
Balaka is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. The capital is Balaka. The district covers an area of 2,193 km.² and has a population of over 310,000. The district's population is increasing at a rate of 2.3% per annum. Major attractions in Balaka District include the 1,850Ha estate Toleza Agricultural Enterprises, St. Louis Montfort Catholic Church, the Andiamo Vocational Complex and the Chifundo Artisans' Network. In this district is the town of Nkaya, an important urban center that serves as the junction point of the country's road-rail systems. Balaka Township, Malawi
Balaka is a township in Southern Region, Malawi and headquarters for the Balaka District. The township was formerly a '' boma'' of Machinga District, before the Balaka District was created in 1998. A growing commercial centre on the road from Zomba to Lilongwe, as well as on a Blantyre– Salima rail route. The immediate trading centres that surround Balaka are Ntcheu, Phalula, Liwonde and Ulongwe. The town is situated roughly 130 kilometres North of Blantyre and about 200 kilometres South of Lilongwe. The town's population is composed of people of multiple ethnicities. However, the Yaos and Ngoni's make up the biggest percentage. The Andiamo, Montfort Media, and "Lucius Banda's" residential areas are characterised by well planned and modern houses which the locals equate to Lilongwe's formal houses of Area 10. Balaka is a movie theater located in New Market, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Balaka Cineworld, one of the oldest movie theaters in the country, was closed on 20 March 2020 for COVID-19 epidemic, but reopened on 29 September 2022. History Balaka Cineworld was established by MA Hasan in Dacca, the capital of East Bengal on 27 August 1951, five years after the establishment of the Dominion of Pakistan. After Hasan's death in the 1970s, the movie theater was owned and operated by his heirs. In 1985, a branch theater of Balaka Cineworld, Balaka-2, was established. Balaka was first modernized in 2001.
