Baillieston (ward)
Baillieston (Ward 20) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed: the ward decreased in size and population, and returned three members. Boundaries Located in the far east of Glasgow, the core of the ward since 2007 includes Baillieston as well as Barrachnie, Garrowhill, Springhill, Swinton, Wellhouse, Easthall, Daldowie and Broomhouse with the northern boundary being the M8 motorway) and the eastern and southern limits being the city borders with North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire. Baillieston
Baillieston ( sco, Bailiestoun) is a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. It is about east of the city centre. It also gives its name to Ward 20 of Glasgow City Council and forms part of the Glasgow East constituency of the UK Parliament. Geographical position Once a separate village, Baillieston is now on the periphery of the Glasgow urban area, situated west of a major interchange between the M8, M74 and M73 motorways and the A8 trunk road, between the town of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, and the neighbouring Glasgow neighbourhoods of Sandyhills, Barlanark and Mount Vernon. Suburban developments in the vicinity such as Barrachnie, Garrowhill, Springhill and Swinton are generally considered to fall within the larger modern Baillieston district. M8 Motorway (Scotland)
The M8 is the busiest motorway in Scotland and one of the busiest in the United Kingdom. It connects the country's two largest cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and serves other large communities including Airdrie, Coatbridge, Greenock, Livingston and Paisley. The motorway is long. 2012 Glasgow City Council Election
Elections to Glasgow City Council were held on 3 May 2012, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections. The election was the second using 21 new wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward elected three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation. The election in Glasgow attracted the most attention out of the local elections in Scotland as there were many predictions that the Scottish Labour would lose control of the council due to losses of seats to the Scottish National Party. The Labour administration had suffered from a number of defections of council members to the newly formed Glasgow First party and controversy surrounding Councillor's salaries and contracts. John Mason (Scottish Politician)
John Fingland Mason (born 15 May 1957) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician who has served as the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow Shettleston since 2011. He was previously the Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow East from 2008 to 2010, and a Glasgow City Councillor from 1998 to 2008. Elections to Glasgow City Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the other 2007 Scottish local elections, Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament 2007 Scottish Parliament election, general election. East Centre (Ward 18) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, but four members were still returned. Springboig
Springboig is a neighbourhood in the east end of the Scottish city of Glasgow, situated north of the River Clyde. Administratively, it has been within the city's East Centre ward since 2017, having previously been in the Baillieston ward. Springboig is bordered to the south by Shettleston and Budhill, to the east by Barlanark and Sandymount Cemetery, directly to the west by Greenfield with Carntyne, St Andrews Secondary School, Lightburn Hospital and Greenfield Park beyond, and to the north by the Edinburgh Road (A8), with Cranhill and Queenslie on the opposite side of the carriageways. Greenfield, Glasgow
Greenfield is a neighbourhood in the east end of the Scotland, Scottish city of Glasgow, north of the River Clyde. The estate was built on the grounds of Greenfield House which was demolished to make way for the new scheme which was built in the 1960s. The area is also home to a recently upgraded football centre, used for amateur games, and a public park. Greenfield lies south of Cranhill, north of Shettleston, east of Carntyne and west of Springboig and Budhill. Housing in the area is in the form of terraced housing, tenements and maisonettes. Budhill
Budhill is a neighbourhood in the east end of the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde. It is situated between Springboig to the north-east, Greenfield to the north-west and Shettleston to the south. The area is associated with Scottish rock band The Fratellis, where the band used to play in a studio above a Chinese restaurant. The Fratellis also released a collection of songs from 2006 to the present day, called 'The Budhill Singles Club'. The name "Budhill" refers to the area of Glasgow where Barry was born. They also visit Budhill Square during the video for Creepin' Up the Backstairs. Budhill Square is also the location of Shettleston railway station (managed by ScotRail).
