Charles Baillie-Hamilton (Bath MP)
Charles William Baillie-Hamilton (22 May 1900 – 24 April 1939) was a British Conservative politician. Background and education Baillie-Hamilton was the younger son of army officer George Baillie-Hamilton, Lord Binning and grandson of the 11th Earl of Haddington. He went to Eton, where he was head boy, and then to University College, Oxford. Political career For some time Baillie-Hamilton worked for the Conservative party and was a private secretary to Stanley Baldwin. He also worked on the East Africa Commission with Hilton Young. In the 1924 general election he was the Conservative candidate for Peebles and South Midlothian which was won by Labour. In 1929 he won the constituency of Bath in a by-election and held the seat with an increased majority in the general election which followed shortly afterwards. Ker Baillie-Hamilton
Ker Baillie-Hamilton (13 July 1804 – 6 February 1889) was a British colonial administrator. He was born in Cleveland, England, and died in Tunbridge Wells, England. Hamilton was educated at the Royal Military College, Woolwich, where he went on to serve in Mauritius and the Cape of Good Hope. In 1846 became governor of Grenada. Beginning in 1851 he was the administrator of Barbados and the Windward Islands. In 1852 Hamilton was appointed governor of Newfoundland. Hamilton antagonized the Newfoundland Liberal Party by impeding the decision of the British government in 1854 to grant responsible government. He was quickly transferred by the colonial office and appointed governor of Antigua and the Leeward Islands in March 1855. He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 1862 Birthday Honours. Robert Baillie-Hamilton
The Hon. Robert Baillie-Hamilton (8 October 1828 – 5 September 1891) was a British politician. Background Baillie-Hamilton was a younger son of George Baillie-Hamilton, 10th Earl of Haddington, and Georgina, daughter of the Venerable Robert Markham, Archdeacon of York. George Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, 11th Earl of Haddington, was his elder brother. Political and military career Baillie-Hamilton was a Major in the 44th Regiment. In 1874 he was returned to Parliament for Berwickshire, a seat he held until 1880. Personal life Baillie-Hamilton married Mary Gavin, daughter of Sir John Pringle, 5th Baronet, in 1861. The marriage was childless. He died in September 1891, aged 62. Mary Baillie-Hamilton died in April 1911. Brigadier-General George Baillie-Hamilton, Lord Binning, CB, MVO, ADC, DL (24 December 1856 – 12 January 1917) was a British Army officer; he was styled "Lord Binning" as a courtesy title. Life He was born in 1856, the second child and eldest son of George Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, 11th Earl of Haddington and Helen Katherine, daughter of Sir John Warrender, 5th baronet of Lochend by Frances Arden. Educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, he was commissioned in the Royal Horse Guards on 11 September 1880. George Baillie-Hamilton, 10th Earl of Haddington DL (14 April 1802 – 25 June 1870), known as George Baillie until 1858, was a Scottish Conservative politician. Life Haddington was the son of George Baillie and his wife Mary (née Pringle). Charles Baillie, Lord Jerviswoode, was his younger brother. He succeeded his second cousin Thomas Hamilton, 9th Earl of Haddington in the earldom in 1858, and in 1859 he assumed by Royal licence the additional surname of Hamilton. The latter year he was also elected a Scottish Representative Peer and took his seat on the Conservative benches in the House of Lords. He served under the Earl of Derby and Benjamin Disraeli as a Lord-in-waiting (government whip in the House of Lords) from 1867 to 1868. Between 1867 and 1868 he was also Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Lord Haddington died at Tyninghame House on 25 June 1870, aged 68. George Baillie-Hamilton, 12th Earl of Haddington (18 September 1894 – 17 April 1986), was a Scottish peer from 1917 to 1986. Life Haddington was the son of Brigadier-General George Baillie-Hamilton, Lord Binning and Katherine Salting (d.1952). He was educated at Eton and then at Sandhurst. He was on the staff of Governor General of Canada and was awarded the Military Cross during the First World War. He succeeded his grandfather in the earldom in 1917. In the Second World War he was a Wing Commander in the RAFVR. He was Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire from 1952 to 1969. In 1957 he became the first president of the Georgian Group of Edinburgh, later the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland. He lived at Tyninghame House in East Lothian, where he and his wife created and replanted several formal gardens. George Baillie-Hamilton-Arden, 11th Earl of Haddington, (26 July 1827 – 11 June 1917), was a Scottish landowner and representative peer. Life Lord Haddington was the son of George Baillie-Hamilton, 10th Earl of Haddington, and Georgina Markham. Lord Haddington was elected a representative peer from 1874 until his death. He was High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1871. He was created Lord Lieutenant of Haddingtonshire in 1874. He was honorary Colonel of the Lothians and Border Horse and an officer in the Royal Company of Archers. In 1886, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were Sir Thomas Grainger Stewart, Robert Grey, Sir William Turner, and Peter Guthrie Tait. He resigned from the Society in 1892.
