Bagdah (community Development Block)
Bagdah (also spelled Bagda) is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Bangaon subdivision of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Geography Bagdah is located at . Bagdah CD Block is bounded by Maheshpur Upazila in Jhenaidaha District, Chaugachha Upazila and Sharsha Upazila in Jessore District of Bangladesh in the north and east, Bangaon CD Block in the south and Hanskhali and Ranaghat II CD Blocks in Nadia district in the west. Bagdah CD Block is part of the Ichhamati-Raimangal Plain, one of the three physiographic regions in the district located in the lower Ganges Delta. It contains soil of mature black or brownish loam to recent alluvium. The Ichhamati flows through the eastern part of the district. The Ichhamati, Kodara and Betna flow through this block. Bagdah (also called Bagdaha, as in census records) is a village in the Bagdah CD block in the Bangaon subdivision of the North 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal, India. Geography The Betna river flows past Bagdah. Area overview The area shown in the map was a part of Jessore district from 1883. At the time of Partition of Bengal (1947) the Radcliffe Line placed the police station areas of Bangaon and Gaighata of Jessore district in India and the area was made a part of 24 Parganas district. The renowned novelist, Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay (of ''Pather Panchali'' fame) belonged to this area and many of his writings portray his experience in the area. It is a flat plain located in the lower Ganges Delta. In the densely populated area, 16.33% of the population lives in the urban areas and 83.67% lives in the rural areas. Bagda is a village near Bhadresar in Kutch district, Gujarat, India. Places of interest There are some memorial stones, ''Paliya''s, the earliest dated 1648 (Samvat 1705) dedicated to one Khatri Parmanand. Halfway between Bagda and nearby village Vaghura is a small temple of Phuleshvar Mahadev, eleven feet by twelve, with writing which seems to show that it was rebuilt in 1837 (Samvat 1894) by Swami Surajgar.
