Bagdad is an unincorporated community in northeastern Shelby County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded at what is currently the intersection of Kentucky Routes 12 and 395. The ZIP Code for Bagdad is 40003. Name The name of the community comes from the name of an old railroad station. According to one account, the station was named "Daddy's Bag", after a colorful railroad worker who lived there, which was eventually shortened to "Bagdad". Another account suggests that a person with a speech impediment named it "Granddad". Yet another story has it that the young speech-impaired son of a local feed merchant, whenever a customer walked in the door, would holler to his father, "Bag, dad!".John E. Shelby County, Kentucky
Shelby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,065. Its county seat is Shelbyville. The county was founded in 1792 and named for Isaac Shelby, the first Governor of Kentucky. Shelby County is part of the Louisville/Jefferson County, KY– IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kentucky Route 12 (KY 12) is a State Highway located in Shelby and Franklin counties, in the northern region of the U.S. state of Kentucky. The highway is approximately long, and travels from an intersection with KY 43 in Shelby County to the Franklin–Henry county line. Parts of the route have existed since c. 1939, and the rest of the highway has existed since c. 1988. Route description KY 12 begins at a junction with KY 43 near Christianburg and travels east toward Bagdad passing through a rural area of mostly farmland. In Bagdad KY 12 forms a short concurrency with KY 395 before heading east out of Bagdad. east of KY 395 the route forms a brief concurrency with KY 1005 and turns toward the northeast. Kentucky Route 395 (KY 395) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The route is located in Anderson County and Shelby County and is long. Route description The route originates at a junction with KY 44 near Anderson City and travels northward to Birdie where it meets the southern terminus of KY 512 and turns more toward the northwest. At Crooked Creek Road the route turns toward the north and enters Shelby County roughly 1.5 miles further to the north. 1.5 miles into Shelby County, the route meets the southern terminus of KY 1472 and turns toward the west, passing through Harrisonville. Martha Layne Collins
Martha Layne Collins (née Hall; born December 7, 1936) is an American former businesswoman and politician from the Commonwealth of Kentucky; she was elected as the state's 56th governor from 1983 to 1987, the first woman to hold the office and the only one to date. Prior to that, she served as the 48th Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, under John Y.
