Bae (surname)
Bae, also spelled Bai or Pae, is a Korean family name. The South Korean census of 2015 found 400,641 people by this surname, or less than 1% of the population. In a study by the National Institute of the Korean Language based on 2007 application data for South Korean passports, it was found that 96.8% of people with this family name spelled it in Latin letters as Bae. Rarer alternative spellings (the remaining 3.2%) included Bai, Pae, and Bea. There are two different ways to write the name in hanja: the most common (), and an alternative () which lacks the "stem" (, Radical 8) at the top. The most common character is also used to write the Chinese surname Pei, which is also the origin of the Vietnamese surname Bùi. Bae Sung-jae (born 15 May 1978) is a South Korean television personality, sportscaster, radio DJ and announcer. Personal life While working at KBS Gwangju Broadcasting Center, he moved to 14 SBS jobs in 2006 to become a sports caster after about 1 year and 6 months after joining. After passing SBS, MBC also received a call to come for the 3rd interview, but it is said that he declined. SBS, which won the exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, chose Bae Sung-jae as the main caster, breaking through the 4:1 in-house competition rate according to SBS's policy to foster young announcers. Bae Joo-hyun (; born March 29, 1991), known professionally as Irene, is a South Korean singer, rapper, and actress. She is the leader of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet and a member of its sub-unit Red Velvet - Irene & Seulgi. Early life Irene was born Bae Joo-hyun on March 29, 1991, in Daegu, South Korea. Ji-hwan Bae (born July 26, 1999) is a South Korean professional baseball second baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2022. Career Amateur and minor league baseball Born in July 1999, Bae attended Kyeongbuk High School in Daegu. He grew up as a fan of South Korean professional baseball, and began watching Major League Baseball when fellow South Korea native Shin-Soo Choo joined the Cleveland Indians. Bae Young-Soo (; born May 4, 1981, in Daegu, South Korea) is a former South Korean starting pitcher who played 18 seasons in the KBO League. He batted and threw right-handed. He was well known as a franchise player for his former hometown club, the Samsung Lions. In 2004, Bae finished the season with a record of 17-2, leading the KBO league in wins and winning percentage (.895), and won his first KBO MVP award, as well as the KBO League Golden Glove Award for pitcher nomination. Dal Shabet (Hangul: , stylized as Dal★Shabet or Dalshabet) is a South Korean girl group created by E-Tribe under Happy Face Entertainment.
