Badminton At The 2015 European Games
Badminton at the 2015 European Games in Baku took place from 22 to 28 June 2015 at Baku Sports Hall. The competition was held over a seven-day period and include five medal events in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Approximately 160 athletes competed. Qualification 32 quota places are available for each singles event, and 16 places (involving 32 players) are available for each pairs event. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking list of 26 March 2015 will be used for deciding eligibility for the event. There will be no separate qualification event. The BWF ranking list on that date will be used to form a European ranking list by removing all players who are not qualified to represent any European NOC and this European ranking list will then be used to allocate places. Baku Sports Hall
Baku Sports Palace (also known as Baku Sport Hall) is an indoor arena located in Baku, Azerbaijan. Originally the arena is named as Palace of Hand Games ( az, Əl Oyunları Sarayı) until 2015. Samuel Magee (born 9 January 1990) is a retired Irish badminton player. He won the 2009 European Junior Badminton Championships, 2009 European Junior Championships in the boys' doubles event at Milan, Italy with his partner Sylvain Grosjean of France. Niclas Nøhr
Niclas Nøhr (born 2 August 1991) is a Danish badminton player, specializing in doubles play. He started playing badminton at Møn badminton club. In 2012, he joined Denmark national badminton team, and in 2015, he won a gold medal at the European Games with his mixed doubles partner Sara Thygesen. After one year of a knee operation, he returned to the court. He said; "I'm just happy that my family, friends, and especially my girlfriend has supported me in such a hard time." Nøhr announced his retirement from international tournaments through his Instagram account on 19 April 2022. Neslihan Yiğit (born February 26, 1994) is a Turkish badminton player. The tall athlete plays right-handed and is coached by Çağatay Taşdemir at Egospor club of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. She won the women's singles title at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games, 2013, 2018 Mediterranean Games and the women's doubles title at the 2013 Mediterranean Games. Yiğit also won the bronze medals at the 2015 European Games and at the 2021 and 2022 European Championships. Özge Bayrak (born 14 February 1992) is a Turkish badminton player. She is coached by Çağatay Taşdemir at Egospor club of Ankara Metropolis Municipality. Currently, she is studying at Aksaray University. She competed at various international tournaments in singles and doubles with her partner Neslihan Yiğit. At the 2013 Mediterranean Games held in Mersin, Turkey, she won the silver medal in the women's singles event, and the gold medal in the women's doubles event along with Neslihan Yiğit. In August 2014, the National Olympic Committee of Turkey named her one of the sixteen "golden" sportspeople of Turkey, who have a great chance to win a medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
