Olympic Gymnastics Arena
The Olympic Gymnastics Arena (), also known as the KSPO Dome since 2018, is an indoor arena located within the Olympic Park in Seoul, South Korea. It has a capacity of 15,000 and can be extended upto 20,000. It was constructed between 31 August 1984 and 30 April 1986, to host the gymnastics competitions at the 1988 Summer Olympics. The roof was designed by David H. Geiger. It is a self-supporting cable dome – the first of its kind ever built – with a four-layer fabric cladding. History Since the Olympics it has hosted a variety of events, notably as a concert venue for both South Korean and international artists. The arena is also infamous due to an incident in early 1992 when American boy band New Kids on the Block abruptly halted their performance after 20 minutes due to a fatal human crush incident where female Korean teenagers swarmed the band to the stage. Leroy D'Sa
Leroy Francis D'Sa (born 12 October 1953) is a retired Indian badminton player. D'sa is one of the first finest doubles player country has ever produced, and he dominated the Indian doubles internationally until late 80s. D'sa is the only player from India ever to have managed to claim four Asian games medals, until now as of 2018 games, his record remains intact. He initially learned the basics of the sport in Hyderabad where his father was posted in Reserve Bank of India. Further he moved to Kanpur then Mumbai to develop his game even more. In Mumbai he was employed by the Railway in 1974. Indian contingent went on to win silver at the 1983 Asian championships in Calcutta. D'sa was part of that team. Icuk Sugiarto (born 4 October 1962) is an Indonesian former badminton player. Career Largely a speed and power player, Sugiarto won the gold medal at the 1983 IBF World Championships, upsetting fellow countryman Liem Swie King in the final, and the bronze medal at the 1987 and 1989 IBF World Championships. Lius Pongoh (born December 3, 1960 in Jakarta; ) is a former Indonesian badminton player. Career Pongoh played singles at a world class level in the 1980s. At nineteen he was a bronze medalist at the 1980 IBF World Championships in Jakarta, losing in the semifinals to fellow countryman Liem Swie King. Liem Swie King (; born 28 February 1956) is an Indonesian former badminton player who excelled from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. He won the All England in 1978, 1979 and 1981. He was one of the world's leading singles players of his era. A world level player in men's doubles as well as men's singles, he was known for the ferocity of his jumping smash. Early life Liem was born on 28 February 1956 in Kudus Regency, Central Java. His parents were Ng Thian Poo and Oei See Moi from Putian, Fujian. He was the only son of eight children. Eddy Kurniawan (; born 2 July 1962 in Semarang, Central Java) is a retired Chinese-Indonesian male badminton player. Career Kurniawan's prime years, the mid to late 1980s, were a period of Chinese domination of international men's singles competition. Though he frequently appeared in the later rounds of major international tournaments, the hard-fighting Kurniawan rarely won them. One exception was his victory at the 1990 World Badminton Grand Prix, where he defeated Malaysia's Rashid Sidek in the final. He won the Australian Open in 1992. Eddy Hartono Arbie (; born 19 July 1964) is an Indonesian former badminton player who excelled in the late 1980s and early 1990s. After a brief stint competing in singles, he soon became a doubles specialist noted for his deft racket control and fluent strokes. His two siblings, Hastomo and Hariyanto were world class shuttlers in men's singles. Career Hartono affiliated with PB Djarum since 1976. Christian Hadinata
Christian Hadinata (, born 11 December 1949) is a former Chinese Indonesian badminton player. Profile Though early in his career he was a fine singles player who reached the final of the prestigious All-England Championship in 1973, Christian's success in doubles earned him recognition as one of the great doubles players in badminton history. He won two gold medals at the 1980 IBF World Championships in Jakarta, in men's doubles with Ade Chandra, and in mixed doubles with Imelda Wiguna.
