Badminton Asian Cup
The Badminton Asian Cup was an Asian continental championship in the five individual disciplines in badminton. It was held in 1991, 1994, 1995 and 1996. From 1997 a team competition called the Asia Cup followed. The Asian Cup Individual championship featured the best players in Asia with the aim of further strengthening and consolidating Asian development in the world badminton. This prestigious invitation event witnessed the best players in Asia to compete for the prize money of US$100,000, one of the richest purses in Asian badminton event. The 1991 Badminton Asian Cup was the first edition of Badminton Asian Cup. It was held in Istora Senayan indoor stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia from 18 to 22 December with total prize money of US$100,000. Ye Zhaoying
Ye Zhaoying (; born 7 May 1974) is a retired badminton player from Hangzhou, China. Officially ranked as the number one women's singles player in the world for the first time in December 1995, she lost and regained that ranking several times during her career. Her best years as a player overlapped those of the slightly older Susi Susanti and Bang Soo-hyun, in what some see as a "golden" era in women's badminton. She retired after the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, and in 2002, she started a new career as a golfer, trained at the Tian An Golf Club. Zhang Ning
Zhang Ning (; born 19 May 1975) is a former Chinese badminton player. She won the Olympic gold medal twice for women's singles in both 2004 and 2008. She has played badminton on the world scene since the mid-1990s and has been particularly successful since 2002 while in her late twenties and early thirties, relatively late for singles at the highest level, and especially for top players in the Chinese system who are developed very early. She is known for her consistency of shot, deception and constant pressure, dictating the pace of rallies and working her opponents in all four corners of the court. Gu Jun
Gu Jun (; born 3 January 1975) is a Chinese former badminton player. Career Gu and her regular partner Ge Fei were the world's dominant women's doubles team from the mid-1990s to their retirement after the 2000 Olympics. They won over thirty top tier international tournaments together, including two Olympic competitions and two IBF World Championships (which were then held biennially). They helped China to regain the Uber Cup (women's world team trophy) from Indonesia in 1998, and to retain the Cup in 2000. Gu Jun was elected to the World Badminton Hall of Fame in 2008. Jiang Xin (; born 18 January 1969) is a Chinese former badminton player who later move to Australia and run a badminton school in Melbourne. He was the bronze medalists at the 1994 Asian Games in the men's doubles and team events. Huang Zhanzhong
Huang Zhanzhong (; born 5 November 1968) is a Chinese badminton player. He won the men's doubles title at the 1995 Asian Cup, and was part of Chinese team that won the 1990 Asian Games and 1995 Sudirman Cup. Huang competed in the men's doubles tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Career Huang is a Wenzhou, Zhejiang natives, who started to know sport since he was in elementary school. His skills were discovered during a badminton talent identification program by Zhejiang province team in 1979, when he was 11 years old. Although he started the training from the basics, Huang immediately shown a good progress in the men's doubles, and then after won some national tournaments, he was selected to join national team in Beijing in 1989. Bang Soo-hyun
Bang Soo-hyun (Hangul: 방수현; Hanja: 方銖賢; born 13 September 1972) is a former badminton player from South Korea who was one of the world's leading women's singles players of the 1990s. She was a contemporary and rival of Indonesia's Susi Susanti and China's Ye Zhaoying and recorded wins over both in major badminton tournaments. Noted for a style that combined impressive power and movement, she retired from competition after her victory in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, shortly before her 24th birthday. Joko Suprianto (born 21 January 1966) is an Indonesian former badminton player who was one of the world's leading men's singles players in the early and mid-1990s, a period during which Indonesia was especially deep in top tier singles players, winning many of the world's major events. Career Suprianto became world champion in men's singles in the 1993 IBF World Championships, defeating fellow countryman Hermawan Susanto in the final, and was a member of world champion Indonesian Thomas Cup (men's international) teams in 1994, 1996, and 1998. Ge Fei (badminton)
Ge Fei (; born 9 October 1975) is a Chinese former badminton player who is one of the most successful doubles specialists in the sport's history. Among many international titles, Ge won two Olympic gold medals and two IBF World Championship gold medals in the women's doubles with her regular partner Gu Jun and a World Championship gold medal in the mixed doubles with Liu Yong. Ge was also a member of Chinese teams that captured the Uber Cup (women's world team trophy) in 1998 and 2000.
